O M G !

You know those horrible people on the forum who tell you VR is the best, nay the only way to play E :D?

well

They're not wrong.

I knew the Mamba was a medium ship but until I saw it through my shiny new Lenovo explorer I had no idea of it's true size. The first hour of playing in VR I sat head on a swivel with a stupid grin on my face looking more at all the little details in the cockpit than I spend on actually flying. Then when I decided to set down on a planet to drive around in my SRV I finally understood just how big these ships really are.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a virtual spaceship to fly...

Heh, yeah first time in ED using VR is quite the rush. Some folks can't get past the lower res or SDE, but if you can the literal depth of the game more than makes up for it. It's the little things like the HUD when you realise it exists in 3d space or the scanner showing the position of ships and asteroids in 3d. Remembering you can look about, lean forward and look up and the back end of your ship. I can't play ED in pancake mode anymore.. :)

Eh.

I have a Glyph and I don’t use it all that often. Not that it doesn’t look great, it does, but I have a hard time staying still and using it. The same holds true with most VR...I don’t sit still. So I miss stuff all the time. Same with TrackIR. It’s cool for about 15 minutes, then it becomes tedious.

But that’s me and the life of a chronic fidgeter.

Yeah, it's pretty rock n roll, isn't it, OP?

I don't know... Every time I see a VR head set I think of that movie The Jerk and all those people that went cross eyed from the newest eye ware tech.

I can honestly say Elite with my Oculus Rift is one of the most immersive experiences I've ever had. It is truly amazing. I just wish the game was more optimized for it. I'm looking at YOU galaxy map...

Yes the galaxy and system maps are a bit of a pain. I switch modes, 2D to VR and back to set navigation, or use the left panel system list.

Must try it with latest version, 2D version looks better, hopefully VR side has kept up.

Love, LOVE, these discovered VR threads!

ED in VR still blows my mind at times, been playing in VR for over about 18 months, only last night I discovered the joys of SLF fighters skimming through canyons of some dusty grey rock, partially lit by the new lighting model of a bright distant star... damn good fun and nothing immerses you more.

If any of you get a HMD from Santa, do post your reactions, makes my day.

Time for another sherry me'thinks :)

I remapped a gamepad for the galaxy, system maps and the FSS - works well enough.

Ooooh SLF canyon run I can do....

No! Must. Eat. Now....

Hmm...

I've got some guacamole to make – it's pretty good. :)

But anyway, too much of a couch monkey junkie for the big screen and surround sound. Even just using a wireless Xbox style controller. Cheers to those who have a launch seat and all that though.
