Objects of Desire

After the initial wave of addon ships (giving a fuller range), I would like to see ships that could be compared to the likes of a Lamborghini or Ferrari car. Ships that demand a double take... Don't get me wrong the current designs look fantastic, but these ships would be incredibly expensive and be real things of beauty.

There would be limited benefits to such ships, maybe a slight buff to equipment installed into hardpoints, extra hardpoints and various other cosmetic (inside and out) enhancements...

I think it would work well with the multiple ship ownership proposal.

Getting hold of these ships would also be another challenge, they would be rarely produced and stock limitations could be controlled manually by FD.

If you see someone flying one these Hyper-Ships, you know they earned it!

Just going by the title, I was going for a gold played dvd with Elite: dangerous on it but after reading your post, yes, I do hope there will be "useless" ships to fly for the fun of flying a challenging ship rather than just a ship which has an obvious attacking or trading ship etc. These ships should be hard to come by and possibly won by completing a specific type of mission, possibly for a wealthy person who can't pay you as their funds are tied up but can give you their ship instead.

yep...fast, beautiful and impractical (at least in terms of cargo space...when did you ever see a supercar with a big boot)
they should come with a luxury interior and flashy paint job, and lots of things that are upgrades on other ships could come as standard

The Cobra MK IV DELUXE edition, with dual military propulsion, extended hyperspace, 50 G acceleration, 16 missile pylons, 4 lasers of 5 MW in the front, fuel cell in the place of fuel, amphibious option for the update on the planetary landings, leather armchair of Thargoid, Jakusi, should be for sale in rich systems.

;)

I may be wrong, but I think you are all referring to the legendary Fer de Lance which Sandro hasn't actually confirmed but hinted very strongly that it will be back and playable.

Here is what he posted on a thread about the Fer de Lance in the PBF.

Hello all!

Standard caveats about the changeable nature of development notwithstanding; I think you guys need to start saving those credits

This will bring about the idea of racing for pink slips quite nicely!

Think it was mentioned elsewhere about battered-looking ships potentially having heavily upgraded equipment; imagine them beating a rich trader showing off their prized possession

Yoink.. I'll have that
