Occupied escape pods & Fleet Carriers

At the moment Occupied escape pods are found and returned for credits to a Search and Rescue Agent.
We are able to hire and fire crew for our ships from the local Crew Lounge.

Suggestion.
Occupied escape pods when found and returned sometimes (not often) will have the person within contact you and gratefully offer their services as either a crew member for your SLF or Crew for any of the various command stations on a Fleet carrier (if you have one and you have that station installed).

We can already replace the different command staff on a fleet carrier with someone new (looking) but what if we could replace them with people that we find and rescued in an escape pod. (rare individuals who will work for less and offer rewards). Some of these NPC's, (extremely rarely) have special bonus skill sets that can provide opperation enhancements to your fleet carrier, such as 10% less running costs or 5% increase to fuel efficiency.

if a commander spent enough time searching for lost souls he could in theory have an entire FC crew all with special bonuses that to some degree enhance the employers fleet carrier.

to reiterate... RARE.... Rare special... rare lucky day, woohooo!.... RARE........ (not void opel rare, I.E common as muck)... 😒 but honestly worth looking for rare.

Also... you could, if so inclined, enslave the NPC and forced them to work for you... but with a decrease to the bonus amount?

"Oooh look, a +3 Cargomaster of Holding! Yay! That's 10% extra cargo capacity for my Fleet Holder!"

Please, no.

I'd like to see the Occupied escape pods be something more than just something you sell for pointless credits, giving players a reason to look for them and engage more in the salvage and rescue side of the game. I see escape pods all the time and i simply leave them because its pointless to bother.

We have crew now in game (in a limited respect) and now with fleet carriers the employed crew of the player has increased. spending some time looking for the best crew to man your ship both in terms of hiring them in the Crew Lounge or by finding and rescuing them and with them each having some functional bonuses like people do in the real world (various qualifiations and skill levels) i think it could add a level to the running of your Fleet carrier, rather than it just being a bunch of mug shots that do nothing except look like the usual freaks from 3306.

This is just a suggestion in the suggestion sub forum... keep the sarcasm to yourself ok.

I'm all for making the S&R career into something better than its current sub-placeholder form, but I don't thing magic buffs are the way to go.

My sarcasm knows no bounds.

We buff modules with engineering and we level up our SLF fighter crews.
Its not an unprecedented idea to have the ability to marginally buff your fleet carrier with skilled crew.
If that skilled crew is the carrot on a stick for players to invest more time in some of the generally overlooked and threadbare game features then i say Frontier should consider it.

My suggestion here is simply food for thought, nothing more.

some bonus' would look really silly, like magic 20% less damage cuz low level zone or you find more credits because why not. but some could be neat and make sense. the stated "such as 10% less running costs or 5% increase to fuel efficiency" are things that companies boast about when their employees improve/refine existing systems.

It doesn't have to be magic it could just be because of their experience they can position things to fit slightly more efficiently then other people who just stack things in a specific manner.

For example I can fit a lot more clothing into a suitcase than my wife can

Indeed, nothing silly or magical.. just general good management from experianced crew members and these crew members can be found in escape pods or maybe rescued form various scenarios.. (like the NPC that you help by bringing them fuel). They can on rare occasions offer greater rewards than the standard hired crew which improves your fleet carriers performance a little bit.

Creating links from fleet carriers to the unsung corners of the Elite galaxy and the various small gameplay details that people generally ignore.

Hooo boy. You just made me realize we have the perfect lore-friendly, "player choice" driven compromise on the passive upkeep issue: No Upkeep for Imperial (slave staffed) Vessels, Yes Upkeep for Federal (salaried worker) Vessels.

This is an interesting idea... but there would have to be a downside otherwise it would be the obvious and only choice made by the player.
Bonus degrade, mutiny and flight risk for example.

having an alternative way to meet and hire crew would definitely add some sense of story or meaning to the NPCs you have. Im just wondering when will it happen? I feel like this is one of those things the devs were dreaming about at the beginning but not knowing how to integrate it into the rest game. but your idea, Vasco Sapien, really sounds workable to me

Indeed. I sacked all my NPC crew. They where just seat fillers who stole money from me.
But if they all had back stories and some useful value that money can't buy in game.
If the small places and overlooked gameplay niches where given some value beyond two minutes of something to do and peanut payouts.

You'd have people doing nothing but jumping around farming escape pods and whining about the 'fleet carrier crew grind' inside a week.

Half of me says do it just so I can laugh at them.

Escape pods are another missed opportunity for greatness. Currently they are just another cheap commodity.
I pass right by them. If however, next to the credits, they offered a service as mentioned above or gave you something
special to show their gratitude. Like coordinates to the undiscovered ELW they were headed to, or a cool mining spot or
the mats they have lying around the house. Something different every time. Anything. It would make them way more
interesting and I would definitely fit a cargo rack on all my SRV ships.
X.
