Occupied Escape Pods - picked up far out in the void

Just sharing my thoughts:

I am 12k LY away from Civilization, returning from a 2 month trip to the far outer rim. On my travels I have retrieved 4 occupied escape pods found during planetary surveillance and prospecting.

I picked them up for obvious RP reasons; not to leave poor souls behind in the black, and treating them as I would have wished to be treated myself in a similar situation.

It would have been wonderful if on returning to occupied space I could see these - hopefully thankful - people off on their return to a new future; as a generated explorer mission of sorts.
I will pretend I am doing just that of course, when I sell them off for a couple credits. But a parting word in a mission completion screen would have been perfect.

One wasn't enough?
huh?
I picked them up on 4 different planets, out of dozens of landings during the trip. I picked up all the escape pods I found on my trip; leave no man behind, and all that.

..or are you joking, and me not getting it?

Really? I collected 64 of them, then dumped them on the far side of the core.

I wish I could actually rescue these poor souls, instead of just selling them off on the black market. I usually just leave them in space. I figure a life of sleep is better than one of slavery.

I hear ya loud and clear CMDR.
My debate team is still in session regarding how this game's only avenue re these actions especially with life pods is via ones own visualized mini game.

They could easily inject missions that ask us to help the local rescue teams retrieve life pods from wrecks since there are plenty of that going on in this game.

From retrieving the life pods of valued miners and other pilots that serve the local econ and retrieval of NPC wanted pilots for arrest and sentencing rather than just leaving them for their buddies to collect and begin crimanal acts again would have important impacts to the local system. I know many many CMDRs would love these types of missions. You would be asked to enter a variety of settings from Nav beacons, Res sites especially, and combat zones. Depending on who you retrieved your navy and or faction rep would grow and of course your bank account. After retreiving a criminal -wanted pilot you would be certainly harrased enroute to the port and very likely near the port too. And instead of hearing only about someones dread of being married, you might then hear about your or a fellow CMDRs acts of retrieving a loved one from wedding barge destruction. Corrupt officials might try to prevent you from collecting the pod even though it is LEGAL to do so becuase you have a warrant/mission re it...so take the pod and for a bonus take the ram and scan security corrupt pilot too. ...and on and on...so many possibilites from this one type of act.

As another CMDR put it; Like COME ON MAN! ;)

You posted this twice in order to change the subject line. That's what I was commenting on.

It is quite annoying that you do your fellow Human a favor by picking them up (rescuing) and then have 'illicit cargo' that can only be sold on the black market :(
Because of this I tend to leave the poor souls to their fate but I would love to legally rescue them without having to find a mission first.
I see a lot of escape pods whilst out on my travels

I agree. They shouldn't be "Illicit Cargo" at all.... it's what you do with them AFTERWARD.

I say... you can set them free at a starport, get a small cash reward, and a nice amount of rep from a faction that cares, as well as potential major faction like Federation/Empire/Alliance.

Or... you can sell them on the black market as slaves, get a much larger cash reward, and no rep or negative rep... and maybe positive rep from pirate/slaver factions in the system.

I can imagine forming colonies once we have atmospheric planets with breathable atmosphere...gather up lots of escape pods, dump em on some somewhat liveable planet, and see if they manage to survive. Maybe a year later come back and find a planetary outpost built where you dumped the pods? ;)
