Occupied escape pods. What am I to do with them?

So Occupied Escape Pods. What can I do with one of these? Obviously someone is inside... can I set them free earning their eternal gratitude? I looked through bulleting board to see if anyone had a mission to retrieve an escape pod (but none were showing). I also wondered if I could sell on black market (as a kind of slave?) but my current station has no black market. I kinda need to change ship now, but can't since "you must free cargo first". So if some solution don't turn up real quick, I may have to "take out the trash" so to speak. I don't want to do this though, I am a good person, I want the good of all people in the galaxy. All life is precious, but so is my time...

You can often find missions, on surface stations, to find a rescue an occupied escape pod. However, if you find a pod first, then find the mission, you can still turn in that pod. The only other option I know of is to "save" the person via selling them on the black market.

Or jettisoning. As I understand that wouldn't kill the inhabitant of the pod right away, since escape pod is designed to make them survive. May someone else will come to help them :)

I'd wish I could release them and they'd thank me hugely, telling me that if I ever get around to "star name, station/planet" I am always welcome to pop by for a drink, and then you can actually do it afterwards or some      like that.

I do recall stories of people tossing escape pods into Sagittarius A*. For science. And another player dropping off 60-odd escape pods on a random moon on the far side of the galaxy. :D

You can jettison them while you're docked, which I suppose is simply letting them go.

I understand your dilema though, I also value human life.
Usually at around 4,000 cr per pod.

So to confirm, we don't shoot them, we don't drop them off in a Sun's corona, we don't maroon them on some godforsaken planet, and finally we don't hand them over to the Soylent Green factories eh?[where is it]

Do what you like with them!

I just prefer the goodness of my heart to carry a monetary value ;)

I found mine on the way home from the Eagle Nebula (currently about 2,800 ly from the bubble and still heading home). No mission from anyone, just happened to find a crashed ship on some [diety] forsaken planet. Two of them.

Surface missions pay a lot better usually in the range of 60-120k per pod. They'll tell you 'One of our pilots is missing' and you can just tell them you've found a pod (glossing over the fact that you picked it up in an entirely different system)

When we can land on habitable planets I would transport them far outside the Bubble and create my own colony...

I found some on a planet's surface and didn't have the heart to leave them there so took them in hold and scoured the boards for missions, went to a Black Market site but nothing doing. I did however find that on the Commodity Board there is a place to sell space junk and they took my Escape Pods off my hands for a little under 1K. Hope that helps.

Didn't think about looking at commodities. Doh!
Look under Salvage - Occupied escape pod sells for 5132Cr (galactic average)

There are sometimes salvage missions where you can pick up these pods without getting marked for illegal salvage.

Funny if you salvage pods on the planet surface even without a mission they are never marked as illegal.

i was a bit amazed when I first them came upon a pod in a wreck and thought I do a good deed and the got label as a smuggler for rescuing that poor guy. :)

Think of it as coming across a car wreck and dragging the mangled survivor out of the twisted wreckage then shoving them in your boot to drive them to the nearest hospital, instead of waiting for the rescue ship to come pick them up

Hopefully with passenger missions coming up slaves/escapees will become more interesting than yet another cargo pod.

I'm out on survey 2 in a (finally) fully fitted DBX- just past Iris nebula, SRVing on an isolated moon and found 6 occupied pods. alas my machine is stripped lean (0 cargo capacity) :(. Isn't there a rescue equivalent of the fuel rats or anything? Though with what I've read so far, they're just 'lost cargo' (slave cartridges) for all intent & purposes 😕. Dilemma indeed, I had even considered a mercy vapourising of the poor folk but in the end I Morsed 'Sorry' a few times with headlights and went starside on that somber note 😔.
