Occupied Escape Ppods on Surface - scoop or not?

Occupied Escape Pods on Surface - scoop or not?

All

Found some occupied escape pods in a far, far away system (smiles) while scooting around the planet surface in my SRV. Is it wise to scoop as cargo and upload to my Ship, then do something with on return to civilisation?

Once again, these show as legal salvage Screenshot_0027 (2).jpg

I concur - Occupied Escape pods SHOULD do something, anything, other than simply be sold off, occupant and all.
Personally, I think they'd be a great way to recover a lost fighter pilot, rather than just writing them off as dead.
I wouldn't even mind if they dropped down to 50% XP in their previous rank as a result of recovery.

Or they could be a means to obtain rare, highly skilled fighter pilots at significantly reduced rates - or generate a "Come to such and such station to receive a reward for rescuing my long-lost great-grand-cousin" pop up missions.

Again, anything at all to signify they are occupied by someone alive.

Or you can be a complete ____ and shoot them.

I wondered yesterday if making them your Active Crew was viable. Perhaps it is possible although it's RNG what rank they'd be but at least you'd have another source for Crew.

LOVE! the idea of a Player crew recovery, take it up a notch and message the person that lost the crewman for a sizable finders fee. make it preset of course. Maybe rank based.

I like this idea as well, sort of a finders keepers. swap them with one of your lower ones once in station.

I always recover them - even calling in other pilots if necessary to get them uplifted - occasionally you get a CG that will take them, but guess I'm an old softy and can't let them lie.
Anyway one of them might be Glenn Miller (the smegger :p).

Well, I mean you just pulled them out of a burned out hulk of metal, they were clearly marked by the bad pilot stick, but if you want to give them a second chance...

:D

I am on my way back to the Bubble from an exploration voyage and in the month and a half or so I have landed on quite a few planets and found many POI's with multiple escape pods. A whole convoy of cargo haulers would have been needed to get them all back to civilization.[haha]

If you pick them up the pirates will start spawning to interdict you when you get closer to civilization. If you don't want to take the risk of npc pirates destroying your ship leave them behind.

The economics are not great. The Galactic average says around 5K per pod but I've yet to see more than 3k offered outside of a mission.

Sadly as the economy values Taaffite, Platinum and even Gold above these I fill my SRV up with those more valuable items!

If when bringing them back with you the people rescued inside send you a message of gratitude and give you a tip off or a bonus of some sort.

Best idea I've heard in a long time regarding these items.
I've already found a few on my trip to Sag A*
This would be a great "thank you".

If you enjoy the RP aspect of it and can handle pirate attacks on the way back into the bubble, definitely. I always collect pods and then eject them inside the hangar at a station.

Agreed. I'd love to see this. Even better if the missions offered could tie in with some of the background story (Thargoids, listening base locations, etc...).

From an RPG perspective I try to never leave anyone behind so I would collect them.

One occasion I was exploring 7kLY's out and had no cargo racks so I couldn't save these guys:

The Lost Explorers:

I lucked on a crash site on a planet I was set down on last night; at 7000LY's outside the Bubble what are the odds that that will happen (RNG perhaps)? This crash site had four Occupied Escape Pods but my current Diamondback Explorer load-out is set up for deep exploration so the Cargo Racks have been swapped out for an AFMS. Four Pods 7000LY's from the Bubble and I couldn't save them!

They are here if anyone is out that way and want to rescue them:

I usually only land on planets while exploring far from the bubble and do not want to sacrafice the loss in jump range from the added mass, or deal with risks from carrying illegal cargo around. I then feel bad for leaving them there forever (let's face it, it was a miracle that I stumbled upon them and highly unlikely that anyone else would happen by, ever), so....

I blown them up. Always.

I find it really hard to not pick up escape pods. Maybe something about being an EOD and battlefield medic in my previous life!

I don't 'explore' in stripped down fits so I'm often just out there in my general purpose fits (Weapons, armour, shields and cargo etc) so often have space to spare so yeah I pick em up. And lets face it NPC pirates aren't really that much of an issue with a decent fit.

I would love I FD ninja'd some content in there so people like us suddenly get more stuff from them as there's not really a financial impulse for this so something would be nice, galactic karma and the like.
