Oceania Pack: Should I Get It?

Good Evening Planet Zooers, Today I have been trying to make a decision, and that is, should I get the Oceania pack?

I don’t have it (yet) and am trying to work out if I should buy it or not. The scenery seems kind of niche and the only animal I would use is the Kiwi, but what do you think? Is it worth it? Is there something I’m missing?

It is a great pack but to the average person it is one of the more niche packs to choose from. The scenery selection is very island/beach oriented but is also one of the best selections of scenery items in any pack but non builders will likely not appreciate the selection of items regardless. For the animals, the tasmanian devil and kiwi are definitely the highlights which complement the Australia and grassland packs quite nicely, if you find yourself building limited oceania themed areas, I'm not sure any animals apart from the kiwi are that appealing in sense of uniqueness.

Personally I buy every pack on release day without a thought on whether its worth it like many on the forum. Every pack has something even the weird and wonderful choices of southeast Asia and twilight found a use in my zoos at some point. Scenery packs benefit from a large variety of building pieces to enhance your zoo builds, oceania comes with like surfboards, new wooden poles and nets which all come in very handy for non oceania areas.

Simply buy it if you want to 'complete' oceania and/or have been dying to get beach themed scenery pieces.
Skip it if you don't think oceania is anything more than kangaroos and emu.

Thanks! I usually build North American zoos, for instance my current project is set in Maryland, so we don’t usually have more than kangaroos and emus 😅. However there is one zoo in my area that holds kiwis, the Franklin Park, and I could out a couple Quokkas in the mixed AU habitat…

I have been kinda wanting to make a nocturnal house with the kiwis and say that they got hem from the chick that was hatched in Franklin Park…

The rest of the pack doesn’t really speak to me though. The devils freak me out a little bit and the scenery isn’t ideal, so I’m kind of conflicted.

You could pretend that your zoo is super groundbreaking in being the only one in North America to house some of the animals. That's what others have suggested and I agree with it.
I could, but my backstory says otherwise. It was originally a farm with some exotic animals but then was turned into a modern zoo. With the timeline it would have only been a zoo for 14 years, so idk if it would be long enough for it to gain AZA accredation or even possibly house these new animals

Then again this is just a computer game so it shouldn’t be too realistic 😅

Selfish opinion: Buy it because every Sold pack is a pack that could lead to more Packs within the future.
On the other Hand I bought every Pack directly at release. I do Not mind the specific animal species so much. I would celebrate the Integration of some species more than others but for me every further species has Kind of a value to the game. And Scenery Just adds more possibilities to the Game for me. The actual one is not that important to me. But honestly you must find your own decision if it is worth to you 10 Euro/Dollar/Pound or whatever currency or Not. You can also wait until sale (There should be Halloween Sale soon and afterwards there is Christmas Sale Not so far away on Steam) or buy it cheaper on other ways.

i dont think the newest dlc go on sale until the second sale? like how australia you could get for 4.99$ and back at conservation it was still 9.99$?

My thoughts:

The great:
Two birds are two strong reasons to get the pack. Even though their daytime behavior isn't super realistic, I adore the Kiwi's. I wasn't expecting to like them as much as I do, but they are probably one of my favorite animals in the game. I love their little squeaks! While the rockhopper remains my favorite penguin, the little blue is also very cute. If you haven't gotten the Twilight pack yet, bats are cool to have in exhibits. Quokkas are pretty nice. I was hoping Australia/New Guinea would get ~3 small marsupials eventually, and this seems like a popular option. The other two I'm hoping for are the Bilby and the Possum if you were wondering.

The good/ok:
Short version: The scenery is high quality but less useful for me. I don't like the devils, but I understand their inclusion.
Long version:
The scenery is very high quality, and I will probably try to work some pieces in, but I didn't find Polynesian scenery as necessary for a zoo game. It looks very nice, but there aren't any animals in the game that actually live in the region, and the only one I'd imagine coming is the Nene, which I doubt would happen anyway. Maybe some exhibit animals or birds later? If you want to make a generic Tiki tropical area, this does allow you to do that, but the theme was a bit less necessary than others in my eyes. It's a fun idea, though, and there are some useful smaller pieces and a nice fence.

The devils were popular, but I don't personally care for them. I find them scary, and their lifespan is only six years, so breeding them is a pain. Typically the youngest ones I see in the challenge mode market are 3.5 years. When you place a pair down, and one is sick, that will leave you with a short window to breed. I tend to prefer species that don't require micromanaging their population, so I can focus on building new areas. I am happy for the many people that wanted it, and a carnivorous marsupial is important for representing Australian ecology.

The bad:
No Tree Kangaroo (was a top 10 for me, and everything else was top 50 or less), but the absence of an animal doesn't generally impact my perception of a pack too much. Still hoping for a tree kangaroo and an echidna eventually.

I guess it entirely depends on if you are willing to pay the price for the amount of content you find useful.

I do not build themed zoos at all, but even then, I have use for alot of the pieces from that theme. The general wooden walls adn fences are really great, the net and rope pieces can also be used in any kind of zoo and there is amazing rock pillar that makes sense in alot of modern looking builds. Basically I find use in pieces from all packs, you just have to look at them as individual pieces rather than seeing them as a theme that has to be used together.

For the animals, even if I tend to build mostly European zoos, from time to time I build zoos that are located far from me, just to change things up. Currently building a zoo in New Zealand and it is really fun. And even then, the animals from Oceania pack are perhaps rare, but not unheard of in captivity outside of their native range (except the Flying Fox), so it is not like they do not have any value to people from EU or NA.

I would say the pack is worth to anyone that plans to play PZ for a while, since in the long run, any hardcore player will probably want all of the packs anyway.

I think it'a awesome and the scenery is extremely useful and versatile.

In terms of animals, flying foxes and small marsupials are extremely common in zoos, so the flying fox and the quokka are very useful.

The kiwi and tassie are more niche, but amazingly animated, and the penguin is cute I guess. Overall I bought it and am extremely happy with it.

I'm pretty sure all the Oceania Pack animals exist in North America somewhere (except maybe the flying fox).

Edit: If it helps your decision, I only bought the North America Animal Pack for the alligator and sea lion (neither of which I use now, ironically, because the spectacled caiman is a better size and the male sea lion is so small it ruins immersion for me), and I only bought the Twilight Pack for the fruit bat and wombat (and, ironically, I use the skunk more than both). IMO as long as a pack as something in it you'll use, and you can afford it, then it's worth it.

Idk if you’ve already decided but here’s my quick review of it:

The best part of the pack is the foliage. If you like building tropical habitats you need this foliage set. Lots of uses for it.

The rock set isn’t really useful, unless I guess you wanna make stuff like dark caves and nocturnal houses.

I’d say I use 1/3 of the construction pieces. The wall set is useless, so is the thatch but it should be flexicolour now so it’s probably better now. The nets, wooden planks and signs are really good.

The animals obviously depend on whether you like building for Oceania animals. All the animals are high quality and are pretty fun to play around with.

The new thatch is great! Sure they're all flexicolor now, but it's my favorite texture wise. Im in the same boat, I like to build realistic North American zoos. Sure, I'll seldom use the little penguin, Tasmanian devil and Kiwi and I probably won't ever use the flying fox and quokka. But the first three are still valuable animals to me for building higher-budget zoos. I prefer it to Twilight ngl

Even if you dont use the animals, its still a scenery pack with alot of usefull pieces so i doubt that you will waste your money.
+ even then, the quokka especally is a very nice animal to have. We were really missing a small rodent size australian filler animal and it does that job perfectly, just pretend its a brettong or something and you got a great use for atleast one of the animals allready
