Ochosi Ganker Block Dance makes me feel dirty.

So there's a big crowd at Ochosi doing the fed rank run.

This inevitibly draws Player Killers looking for fun. That's the game. No judgement.

I'm flying a PVE Phantom running g5 modded LR pulse lasers, about 1k shields, about 1k hull with modded hull and mod reinforcements. Just a basic functional ship with decent range and decent boost speed (560 ish boost). I'm not concerned about any NPC in the game, but this is not a competitive ship in any pvp encounter. I can do the dance to escape gankers that interdict me with very little concern.

Lately, as soon as I pop into a system, and see my bandwidth pop up, I look around for ship types. If it's an FDL or FAS in a situation like this rep run, I don't even bother to deal with it any more.

I throttle down, emergency stop, find the contact, BLOCK, restart the game, get back to farming whatever.

It's no secret that C&P is not an effective deterrent, and I honestly don't feel like the player has any moral shortcomings at all. This is a video game, and the guy or girl is playing within the rules.

I just feel so gross that this is the most functional mechanic to address the gameplay mismatch.

I wonder what Elite 2.0 will look like in handling this. I sincerely hope it's better than what we have now.

So why not just fly in Solo if you're just going to block everyone you see?

They aren't, they are blocking based on ship type.

This is a bit extreme, I at least see if they just open fire with no communication, at that point I block. If they communicate with more than a fire button I see them as valid parts of the game world, otherwise I see them as out of character/world pewtrolls

Question still stands, if you're going to be blocking anyone who's going to potentially attack, why not just fly in Solo or PG? It doesn't exactly open up much for interaction, and results in blocking people who are just flying certain ships, who may very well be in those ships to deter being attacked.

I wait until they try to line up for an interdiction, then I block. Plus it delivers more salty tears when they fire the interdictor, drop to normal space, and find...nobody.

Some people (like me) like flying FdLs because they’re great fun and look cool, not because they’re a PvPer. I try to avoid ship-racism where possible.

So let me get this straight. As others have asked, you immediately block anyone in a combat oriented ship?

I guess you block any CMDR with purple hair too.

Funny thing is that you might actually be blocking lawfuls who show up to protect CMDRs such as yourself.

So not only are you blocking potential enemies, but potential friends as well. 🤔

This, ladies and gets, is how you avoid ganking in hotspots. The true meta. Why submit to broken interdictions in an unengineered T7 when you can get so much salt from leet pvpers without engineering. Just by using a totally legit block feature after droping to normal space.

The more people do it the better.

Well said.

Never judge a player by their ship. If you’re in supercruise and you suspect someone behind you may be a ganker, go for a wander, pointing your ship away from any destination in the system. If they follow, you have your answer. If not, they’re (usually) safe.

Get where you're coming from and play it your own way. BUT, your blocking strategy is a bit harsh. 60% of the time if you encountered my wingmate or I in open, you would block us. Those you block in open will also be blocked in PG, which may lead to some strange effects during expeditions or events in the future. Instancing can be problematical enough, without the added complication of an extensive block list built on well, Shipism.

Happy hops Cmdr.

If ganking with no real motive is seen as a sensitive thing to do just because it is permitted by the game, why is someone blaming the Op for blocking players the way he does ?

It’s legit, deal with it.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the block function. OP is blocking people he doesn’t want to play with, which is fair, but his criteria for determining who is/isn’t a ganker is fundamentally flawed. It’s wiser to judge based on actions, not appearances.
