Oculas Rift DK2 question...

Simple question... Will my system run E : D on the DK2.

Win 8.1pro
i7 4770K @ 4.5ghz
2 x 280X crossfire
16gb vengence 2400mhz ram

thanks :D

I run a single 7970 just fine but others seem to have small problems. (Remember its a dev kit)
Shame you don't have access to borrow one.

so tempted to order a DK2.... over a year to release :/ Think i may have one by end of month :|

This is a custom build, never had problems running anything dispite all probs other ppl have with games ect. Think ive made my mind up ^_^

Tempted here also by the DK2 but I hear the HTC Re Vive may be worth a look at. Not sure if anyone here has any thoughts on it?

low res? the dk2 runs at 1080? does it look bad because its close up ?

It looks very pixely. It's 1920x1080 split across two eyes, so 960x1080 and it shows. The retail Rift will be a lot higher, and the HTC Vive is much higher. That said the Rift is a great piece of kit, and one of the best - if not the best - bit of computer equipment I have ever purchased. But now we are literally months away from retail VR, so it could well be worth waiting.

And yes your setup should run the Rift fine...however do look into Crossfire / SLI issues as Oculus recommend that people should not use it for VR.

Retail is over a year away i reckon.. Ive been trading in E : D just to make some cash since release and expected the Rift retail this year sometime, now theyve said its going to be Q1 2016 im very tempted to get a DK2 so i can really get into this game :| Wish there was somewhere i could try a DK2 before i ordered. Might ask around lol

Unless you have time to get into the development side of things... I would really wait a year (ish) for the full retail version

It's my opinion.. and I'm not trying to sway you one way or the other. I'm just a older git and more into letting tech get developed before buying in... that's all :)

Development side of things? @YK2, it's pretty simple, if you have the disposable income then most definitely buy one. It is without a doubt the best piece of hardware I have bought for my setup. That comes after 15+ years of spending insane amounts of money chasing immersion. Put it this way, I spent over a grand on a new 4K LED just for ED, since I bought the rift 5 months ago, that TV's primary function is to prop up the DK2 tracking camera.

Am still slightly in disbelief that the experience is going to get better. It really is that good

The DK2 is less than half of 1080. 1080 is the total rez of the screen, but each eye gets half. Actually it gets LESS than half because of how the shape of the scene is displayed. There is a bit of black around the edges/corners. And not only is it half of 1080, it is also about 2 inches away from your eyes.. so the pixles look huge, hence, the screen door affect. It kinda looks like you're playing on an 800x600 rez or something.

But having said that.. the experience of feeling like you're ACTUALLY in the ship, FAR outweighs the low res. The experience is amazing, if your computer can run it. The CV1 is rumored to be 1440p... and while not a LOT of resolution (1440 devided in half), it should be considerably better than the dk2.

Don't wait... 1 year of use of the dk2 is worth every penny.

I very obviously.... don't have one Driver ....

The only reference I have is during R & D and testing of military night vision equipment.... many , many moons ago... I suppose another tech would be mobile phones... remember them when they first appeared ????

<shivers> :)

Does someone have the html site that tries to show the dk1 dk2 res. I didn't believe it but having the rift I believe it's not a bad tool. I would look but on the mobile.
