If you've got the spare cash and are prepared to sacrifice visual acuity for the sake of immersion then go for it. Like you (it seems) I got one purely because I HAD to have it and I've not regretted the rash, impulse purchase one single bit. The feeling of being IN your ship rather than simply watching it from the other side of a pane of glass is unbeatable. I like mine so much I'm not particularly bothered about the retail release. I'll keep using my DK2 for as long as it's supported.

You really do get used to the lower overall resolution.

Have a look a this website, it'll give you an idea of what the DK2 display looks like...

I find keeping it set to the DK1 resolution is the best, overall, reflection.

Thanks for the time. Am i right in assuming the 1080 1920-1080 is the DK2. Once my eyes adjusted its not that bad, considering the immersion. Im sold. I ordered :D Ill update when im set up.

Yep, the 1080 option is the "correct" setting to simulate the DK2 but I think, when you take into account how close the screen is to your eyes, the DK1 option gives a fairer representation.
I'm now hoping I've not convinced you to buy something you'll hate! :p

whats the 'low persistence' option? because with that enabled the screen is alot clearer.

That flash demo gives a pretty good example of what the screendoor affect looks like. You have made a wise choice. Make sure you stop down in the VR forum here, and read. There is a LOOOTTT to do before yours arrives. There are dozens of tricks and tips for getting the most out of your OR. For example. sweetFX. Colors and contrast doesn't pop as well in the OR as it does on a monitor. There are issues with USB3 (don't go near it with the dk2), etc... lots of things to know before you dive in.

My OR DK2 has been in the box for the past 5-6 months as I prefer the big screen (48" smart Tv). I have just took delivery of a GTX970 replacing my R9-270x card. I may get it back out and try it again as I now have more umph in my GPU. I suppose it might be better in my current game play of exploring 26KLy from occupied space. I do wish I had tried before buying as I might not have bothered. Had a DK1 which I resold at the same price after 3 months.

It looks very pixely. It's 1920x1080 split across two eyes, so 960x1080 and it shows. The retail Rift will be a lot higher, and the HTC Vive is much higher.

I believe that you have that backwards, it seems that the Vive will have a lower spatial res than the CV1.

(Also, Y2K, don't count on Crossfire doing anything useful, be prepared to run it on just one card, if needs be.)

Sorry bud hadn't seen you had replied . I hate playing it without it . As everyone says it's not perfect but a real game game changer. I've played sessions up to 12 hours at a time , a little shocked when I take it off and realise day has become night lol if you can spare the wonga , it will be the best money you've spent over joysticks etc imho :)

CV1 has the same res as the VIVE DK (possibly the same screen even)

whether VIVE consumer version will have a higher res than the DK, who knows, but it isnt a lower res than oculus rift CV1. my money is on them both being the same and any differences will be down to the optics as well as the motion tracking.

I'm hoping they also have compatible SKD's - but I guess that will be unlikely.
