Oculus complete pauses for seconds at a time even on title screen

I sold my pimax 4K recently as I got a good offer on it. I’m getting the 8k at some point so figured I would use my rift in the interim

I am seeing an issue where even on the title screen just tilting my head about the whole hmd completely locks up for a second or two every 15-20 seconds or so

Looking at the processs running I see the top of the list is system interrupts at the time of the freeze.

I7-3770k overclock 4.3ghz
Asrock extreme4
4x4gb ddr3 memory
Gtx1080
Windows 10 fall update - dvr is disabled
Latest nvidia Driver

Ss1.0
Hmd 1.0
Oculus debug 2.0

VR medium profile

3x rift sensors on pci usb3 card roomscale
2x usb on motherboard for thustmaster warthog
1x usb on front for Bluetooth mouse
1x usb2 pci for Xbox controller

USB powersaving disabled

Any advice on troubleshooting this greatly appreciated guys!

Debug setting to 2?
And you expect that to be smooth?
that's a significantly higher load to render than what the pimax 8k will need even.

try knocking that down 1.25.

The spacewarp (ASW) is a surprisingly CPU intensive.
One of the things I noticed are the artefacting and frame drops in ASW got a lot less noticeable when I upgraded from a i7 4790k to the 8700k.

I’ll try that. Thanks. What’s throwing me is that it’s not stuttering or choppy. It’s hard freezing for seconds at a time.

I’ve built an Amazon list for a total hardware refresh for later this year in anticipation of the pimax but I was hoping to limp along until then with the rift.

If you push to far that can happen.

But anyone bottle neck can cause it.

Just to make sure if it is ED related try playing robo recall or another vr title for a bit, if there is no freezing there, it's ED related, if it does there might be something going wonky in your system.

It should be fine, barring issues, but I wouldn't consider 2.0 SS playable with my 8700k and 1080ti, I tried for a few minutes and there was Cleary stuttering and frame drops.

In fact I'm probably one of the few who prefer no SS at all in elite.
I find most of the benefits to be imagined and does nothing to solve the actual issue of the low panel resolution.

Yeah I can tell an obvious difference.
But that doesn't automatically mean the end result is better.

I put SS down and HMD up higher. I know technically that I am upscaling but I can up the settings with better perfermance so it still looks good.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll try some combinations tonight .. if I can eliminate the hard freezes I’ll be happy.

Its weird though that I went through this whole process with steam/pimax and never got a hard lock like this and only stuttering or micro FPS drop when I actually started the game. That’s what was throwing me for a loop.

By the way , my pc build wishlist is up at $1400 at the moment.. and that’s without a GPU ... yikes!

I am running at pixel density 2 and all ultra in ed except AO.
No stuttering ever. No freezes.
1080ti oc
4930k at 4.5 ghz
Always above 90 fps with asw

I was getting the same symptoms a couple of months ago. A Windows re-install (specifically a Fresh Start) fixed it. But obviously this should be the last step in your troubleshooting after trying different nvidia drivers etc.

Can you let me know your HMD/Debug tool/SS settings? Since I was forced to update my nvidia drivers I have been getting poor performance. I7 7700K (4.9ghz) 1080TI, FPS is 45 at stations, 90 in space. Previously it was pegged at 90. Everything Ultra, AO switched off.

SS 0
HMD 2
SMAA
Shadows high (used to be Ultra)

I was running old drivers and everything was silky smooth, now Oculus won't run unless you have the newer driversr.

Kiaro is locked to 45fps, he just can't understand the difference between actual 90fps and reprojected.

Well slightly embarrassed to say the problem was between the keyboard and chair. Not sure how I missed it, my SS setting was at 1, lowered it back to 0.65, everything is 90FPS again, smooth as silk.

I understand it :) But all that matters is that it visualizes as 90 fps in my rift. Best possible resolution with PD 2.0+90 fps (visually) - some distortion in hud lines. I cal lthat a great trade-off. Been bounty hunting in haz res for a few days for the community goal. Silky smooth all the time.

I run with ASW on. With it off I cant get 90 fps. Use the driver you used before 388.59 :)
