A summary of the best bits of Oculus Connect.
[here's what I wrote in an earlier email around my office]
Early on they talk about hand tracking in the Oculus Quest, where basically you completely do away with the need to have a controller in your hand, instead using video processing of the outward facing cameras in the Quest headset to simply interpret your hand movements.
Then there's the bit towards the end where they're using video processing again to reconstruct your face in the VR world. No more need to have cartoon like avatars of yourself in the VR world, just your own face (and there's also stuff in this showcase for reconstructing the environment you're standing in and indeed your body).
Oh, and in November there's a software update to the Quest which means you'll be able to plug the normally standalone headset into a PC that has decent graphics support so the Quest basically becomes the best of both Oculus headsets - standalone if you want, or a more powerful tethered headset if you choose to plug it into your PC.
It seems VR is alive, well and developing rapidly Mr Braben!
