[Oculus CV1] Please check if you also have this tracking issue

I like to ask the CV1 users to do me a favor and check if you have these (minor) tracking issues as well.. I'm trying to find the root cause of it, and knowing if it's a general Oculus or ED based problem would help.

The test: Simply turn around about 180° in your cockpit, so that you see the chair you're sitting in. Take care not to turn your actual chair's back into line of sight with the sensor.. :D

I have a Vulture with a reflecting metal frame chair, and when I look at the frame, and around its corners, move my head, I see some glitches: The position tracking sometimes "jumps" or jidders, sometimes it "swims" as if I had my head floating around a few mms. I only recognized this on nearby objects in ED yet.

I've set the gfx to "VR low" profile for testing, I'm using a gtx1070, tried relocating the sensor and different USB ports, removing apps (voice attack, voicemeeter) that could offend tracking and followed almost every tip in oculus reddits and forums I've found.

Do you have the same?

PS: I just tried it in Lucky's Tale and I have the same issues there when I turn around, no matter where my Sensor is positioned (right in front of me, slightly above my head, 1m away, or front-left of me, 1.5m, same height).

Yeah, I see this. I put it down to the shape of the headset, and there being a certain position/angle where the single sensor doesn't see its position perfectly.

I've got my sensor on the left hand side of my monitor, on the desk; if there was a place to put it in a more central location, or possibly elevated, I'd go for that.

For me, it happens if I "look down" while turned 180 degrees to the sensor... so kind of far over my right shoulder. It doesn't happen if I turn the other way.

Hmm haven't noticed such an issue with my CV1 but then I hardly ever turn 180 deg in ED.
There is VRIDEO (vrideo.com) which plays 360 and there I foten look around and never noticed anything.
.
However in ED I often see that when there is a moon on my side (90 deg, Corner Fov of my eye) that it sometimes has missing tiles (black rectangle Region) that Oculus seem to have skipped as like it thinks it is just not in the visible range ... but it is!!! Not sur eif this is an issue of oculus or ED.

Maybe you you'd like to test this the next time you're playing ED with a rift. I can see this "floating" very clearly when turning around. In vrideo I do not see it that strong as well, due to the fact that I'm rarely looing at items close by and behind me in vrideo. You don't notice it that strong on more distant objects. I'd really like to know how common this is, or if this is just happening to some few users.

Same here. it depends on where you put the sensor. With the sensor below your head, it has trouble if you look 180 degrees away from the sensor and look down.

Well I just did (in ED). I can't detect any issue. The tracking is a bit less accurate which is to expect and you might notice as a "Floating". You have only a few (I belive 3) position led's on the back compared to a lot in the front. Maybe I am less sensitive or my sensor is positioned better or my PC a bit stronger.

edit: maybe do a web search:
here someone reported something like you say?: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H2Ays7oQYM0

Thanks for sharing. Here, this "jumping" is not that extreme as in the video. I've found a plenty of blogs and threads describing similar symptoms as I have, but I found it particularly hard to distinguish if they (and their commenters) are having minor or major problems with this, if they have defective device, a misconfiguration, or if this is something that simply is usual for an Oculus Rift. To have a better comparison of the various issues, I wanted to share experiences here by setting up a scenario that everyone can simply try themselves. If we all have the same problem, we can simply accept that as a part of a Rift owner's life. If not, I can investigate further into the differences of the setups.
