Oculus Elite won't launch

Hi commanders! Last time I played ED (or Oculus) was over a year ago when Oculus stopped supporting Windows 7. Due to moving out of state, I only this past week been able to unpack my Oculus system and upgraded my PC with a new hard drive and dual boot install of Windows 10. Oculus is functioning as expected but ED will not launch after installing from the Oculus desktop. When I click on it, whether from the pc desktop or "under the hood" I get the timer circle indicating it's loading and then it just disappears. No warning, no error. Nothing. I understand that ED had a new version release and was wondering if that's the reason my "old" Horizons version won't launch. Thank you

Yeah.... I don't find anything in Oculus like you describe.
When you log into the launcher click on Options at the top right next to My Account. You'll see an option in the dropdown called Log Out Machine. Click that.

The launcher is the same on Oculus as it is on Steam or wherever else.

I don't mean to be obtuse, but I'm still confused. Maybe the "launcher" isn't loading? I only ever remember launching Oculus and seeing my library of apps I purchased from the Oculus store. Then I click on the ED icon from the Oculus library. So, googling "loader" I went to frontierstore... I don't recall having an account there, but I clicked "forgot password" and entered two possible email addresses. One email got a reply so I must have had an account. I changed the password and then tried to log in. The site just keeps going back to the login page like I didn't enter my password. Grrr.

Ah, OK. It sounds like there's a problem with your ED installation. As far as I know there's no way to verify files in Oculus, so your best bet might be to deinstall and reinstall the game.

One other thing you can try is checking that it's trying to load the game from the right place. You never know, with adding a new drive the Oculus database might still be trying to load it from the old location. If you click the three dots next to ED in the library, then click Details in the drop down, it'll show you the location it'll try to load the game from. You can click on the path it gives and it'll copy it to the clipboard, from there you can paste it into an explorer window and check if it's actually where it thinks it is. If it's not (and you can find where the game actually is), you can use the Move option on the same menu to change where Oculus will load it from.

Thanks for the pointers but still no joy. I absolutely LOVE playing ED in VR... but I SOOOOO regret getting an Oculus. I think this is a problem on their end. I did as you suggested and found the folder where the game is stored is where ED thinks it is. While in Explorer I saw the Launcher executable file so having nothing better to do, I clicked it. I got a warning that it wasn't intended to use outside of Oculus but it continued anyway. It launched all the way to the menu but NOT in VR. I didn't go past the menu. I exited and went to VR to see if it was there. It said "loading" ED but it never came up.

Next, I uninstalled as you suggested. Now it won't install. I had this problem the first time too. When I try to install it says it's installing and the percentage climbs to 100% in about a minute, then it starts at 600Mb and downloads at a reasonably slow speed. A rate equal to about a half hour or so to DL the 20Gb. However, it stops before getting too far, maybe 2Gb and then it starts the whole process all over again. Infinite loop. I don't recall how I got it installed the first time.

you should be able to goto launcher options and either tick or untick the cache option
if stuck in das loop
Thanks. Still no joy. So what was happening was the launcher wasn't being started by Oculus. That is still the case. However, I found EDLauncher.exe in the Programs folder and ran it manually. It all works there but not from within Oculus. I managed to do as you suggested in your first post (it all makes sense now that the launcher came up manually). ED comes up in all its glory on the flat screen. I'm able to navigate the menus and even sit in the cockpit. I forgot I still have almost 800 million credits that are still there in my account. My avatar is still intact. It would seem my account is still accessible on the server.

I also did RamonnYetas suggested . Thanks to both of you.

I have a ticket into Oculus as it would seem that this is a problem on their end. However, if anyone has any further suggestions, I'm willing to try. o7

maybe try the headlook settings in the control options to see if the device is picked up
or in the graphic options 3d settings

I'll give that a look. Forgot to mention that once I've launched manually, if I start Oculus, Oculus indicates ED is "playing" but the headset just goes to the Oculus home screen. No ED graphics. Clicking on the ED icon on the Oculus desktop does nothing.

Since i have a Rift S and i play ED from FDev launcher and not from Oculus or Steam i can confirm that you can start the game from the launcher and still have VR working.
Try this - start your launcher and run the game. Once loaded, go to display options and select HMD for your display. Quit the game so the settings will be saved and start it again. The launcher should automatically start Oculus software and you should now have the VR working.
Since i do not use Oculus store to start the game i cannot give you any pointers about why it is not working. You should open a ticket to their support about this.

Still failed. The launcher will launch manually but not if the Oculus app has been started. I can run the launcher manually THEN start the Oculus app. The launcher options menu does have any setting for display of any kind. So, I launched ED to look at the options there. I forget the actual thing I clicked on but basically it was the graphic setup. The only setting that looked close was something like "display" but it said "Primary", had no drop down or way to change to anything else. Hovering over "Primary" changed the help/description text box to the right to say (paraphrased) "Not for HMD. This setting only affects the main screen" Something like that. It was pretty specific about the "not for HMD" as if the setting wasn't intended for that. Additionally, nearly every setting in that sub category, resolution, detail etc all had similar descriptions. So, I don't know to which "options" menu you were referring, but those two were the only ones I saw.

I did manage to get into the store. I don't know if my ad blocker stopped something but I found another way to try and log in and this time saw a window requiring me to click on it to verify my account. At least I'm now in the store. I got a response from the support ticket I opened. I was told people are having trouble logging in to ED from the Oculus home and was provided a link to download a new launcher where I can apparently get in as you have described. Problem is the link is to some obscure website that I don't feel comfortable downloading files from. It's probably fine, but it would be nice to have a little more assurance. The site is hosting.zaonce.net. Seems really odd they wouldn't use some kind of "frontier" url.

If i am not mistaken that site is hosted by FDev. The Zaonce Bank is from the game.
In fact i went to my account for a quick check and some of the things a bought are downloaded from there.
You should not have any issues downloading your launcher.

Cool, thanks! I know Zoance is from the game, but a bad actor could obtain a url using a word from the game that isn't already taken, I'm sure. I was 90% sure it was legit, but I prefer like 99.99%. I web-surf commando style. No antivirus software so I'm cautious about where I go and what I download. Confirmation from another party on a forum isn't a guarantee, but it bumps up the legitimacy a few points. I'll give it a try.

As a Linux SysAdmin i am really cautious when i browse around on my Windows machine, however my browsing behavior changes entirely once i boot in Linux.

is the official direct download for purchases made before april 2019 methinks( so if purchased b4 then it will work for you)
when steam and fd killed off cd keys usage etc if I rem correctly or something like that
"the city central computer told you!"
"R2 you know better then to trust a strange computer"
which in that instance R2 was right too also
