oculus home and or Nvidia patch problems?

Greetings, o7
Is anyone else having problems since the new nvidia or oculus updates? I am fairly new to the rift. I had it working in VR, Had full screen on monitor plus working great in VR. I downloaded latest update for nvidia gtx 1070, also was reading about the new oculus software so opted in. Now it does not load, Loads fine to Desktop, ED works fine in desktop, but oculus home tells me, waiting , waiting, and never loads up. I looked into a 3rd party key to add to oculus system, got one and added, Now it wants me to load a whole new game of 15gigs or so and it shows two programs in oculus home , elite 64 and slowly downloading elite commander. Why would you have to load a whole new game file? Is there a way around this as my net speed is .5 a sec so 15 gigs is a few days lol

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you for your time.

OP. I feel your pain.

On a new PC, and clean install, I'm unable to run Elite from Oculus home or client. I can only run the VR version from the desktop shortcut (for me, the path is: D:\Oculus Apps\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous). To play the non-VR version I have to uninstall the O.R. client, then reinstall it when I want to play the VR version.

Can you run the game direct from the shortcut?

It works great from the main elite page where it asks you what version you want to play, it was working fine till i updated nvidia driver and oculas home. acts like it will work monitor comes on but rift says waiting, and never loads up so you can see it from headset.
If i try to run elite 64 from oculus home it kicks in but then says i need to load from main installer to get latest version, i guess we will see what happens when this new version gets done till then back to head tracker maybe i got spoiled

If you're able to play the game via another method, I wouldn't worry about it. After I wasted over 10 hours doing 3 clean installations of windows trying to fix it, I concluded that as long as the game works, it doesn't matter how I load it up.

So if you run from the desktop .exe you get into desktop mode and not VR? is that right? Are you able to run other VR games from Oculus home or client?

Yes, all other games are working in rift, and elite was working in VR up till this new patch job, Nvidia update and oculus home, now the gane still starts, on desktop, but VR in oculus does not, it just sits there and says waiting. tryed all kinds of things ... I am now downloading elite through rift home software. we will see.
It just bothers, that i already have this game for years and now i have to re download for rift home and my net is so slow, it will take a few days to download again, very strange that it just stoped. was hopeing somebody would know.

Do yourselves a massive favour, and forget about Oculus Home. Uninstall it from Oculus and download the standard launcher from the Frontier store. Then, to switch between VR or 2D, get DR. Kaii's fantastic ED Profiler.

What he said (in part) ----^

Reinstalling Win10 and ED is a drastic step, obviously a pain in the butt and often unnecessary. I also like Oculus Home and Dash, which have a heap of other features, so IMO keep it if you can. I'm running ED in VR using the latest Nvidia driver and Oculus Home (beta) with no problems. With that in mind, this workaround should do the trick:

- Install EDProfiler.
- Create a VR profile (make sure the 3D is option checked because this tells ED to start in VR). By default it will also "mirror" the game on your desktop in windowed mode at low resolution (a "mirror" at full screen is resource hungry and does impact on loading times for the game).
- Save the profile.

When your ready to play:

- Start Oculus Home and minimise it.
- Then start EDProfiler, select your VR profile and hit launch.
- The ED launcher will open after a while. Hit play.

ED should then load in your Rift with a low resolution windowed mirror on the monitor.

You can swap to Oculus Dash while running ED by hitting the "Oculus" button on your touch controllers or remote. There's a thread in this sub-forum about Oculus Dash which is worth a read. I have found the Dash to be quite useful.

P.S. If you haven't done so already, also consider downloading a utility called Oculus TrayTool (can Google for a link). Its a useful app that demystifies the Oculus debug settings and you can set the options so, when you turn on your 'puter, it automatically starts, minimises and loads Oculus Home.
