Oculus Home/Steam Install Linked?

I'm hoping someone here can help me understand a few things about playing Elite Dangerous with an Oculus Rift CV1. I've been playing Elite Dangerous through Steam for a while now & just recently got my Rift. Elite Dangerous is literally one of the biggest reason I got a Rift so I immediately followed instructions on allowing the Rift to be used with SteamVR. Booted up Elite Dangerous & wow......its completely awesome!

I then began to read around & Rift users stated that I could set up E:D on Oculus Home by requesting a key on Frontiers site to do so. So I did this....begin to download E:D....and realized it was only about 6GB or so big. Didn't think much about it. I was expecting I'd have to go in & set everything up again, but I realized that all of my control settings & my HUD Color mod were there....just like there are with my Steam version.

So that leads me to my question.....is the Oculus Home version linked to the Steam version? I have both on the same SSD but I was expecting two different iterations of the game (the OR version & the Steam version separate). My reason for asking is I'm wondering if since I have the Rift I should do away with my Steam version & re-install the Oculus Rift version. Wondering if this would make any difference? I've been seeing threads about running in Oculus Home instead of SteamVR...but if my Oculus Home version is pulling the game from the Steam version.....what's the difference?

Looks like its keeping some of the shared settings in C:\Users\<Your Username>\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options and other shared locations.

I didnt think about that. Thanks for pointing that out. I was concerned because my steam install is like 14GB but the Oculus install is on 6GB. Wasn't sure if the Oculus install was some how pointing back to the steam install. I think I might uninstall both & just install the Oculus version. Reason being is I'm seeing some graphical glitches in VR like stuttering, brief gray-out flickering & weird glitches when while jumping (entering & exiting) between systems or supercruise. I have a 3930K OC'd to 4.2ghz, 16GB ram & a 295X2 in my system so I would think I could run the game on SMAA 2.0 in VR without any issues. But I can't get over SMAA 1.0 without things started to slow down/glitch.
