Oculus Livestream prior to E3 2015 ... Is Oculus giving up on Elite as a premiere title?

I am watching the Oculus livestream in anticipation of E3 and was alarmed when, during the segment of the livestream when game development partners were introduced and talked about. Eve: Valkyrie and others were mentioned ... but FD was nowhere to be found. This is particularly alarming given Elite's (erstwhile?) status as a VR pioneer.
.
With the failure of FD to implement SDK 6 thus far, and this (obvious?) slight from Oculus during their livestream makes me concerned about the VR future of Elite Dangerous. Has E:D been left in the VR dust?
.
(As an aside, I'm more than ever concerned about Oculus' direction with their introduction of the XBone controller to be shipped with the CV1, but that's just an aside).

The fact ED is on Steam and the Stram VR device coming soon makes me think there may be a bit of friction. Also Eve Valkyrie is a direct competitor and they are very close to Oculus. What did amaze me was seeing Harmonix's logo. Rockband VR? :0

Wow. Can't believe I hadn't thought of that- you've probably hit the nail on the head.

I'm gonna hold out for Vive. I have a feeling Frontier are gonna partner with them. I find it mind boggling Elite Dangerous has suddenly become so insignificant in the world of Oculus.

Did found it disturbing too, not seeing anything Elite related in the oculus livestream... All they had to show was the same trailer of EVE valkyrie.... A shame really as Frontier make a lot of efforts for the rift compatibility!

So one more time THANK YOU FRONTIER for your hard work!

Ugh, I hope they don't go with Vive. The by far main thing we need is better resolution. Even the CV1 isn't going to have nearly enough for my liking, but the Vive is just going to be a teeny bit sharper than the DK2.

Yeah I like the idea of having lasers in my room and virtual walls and such but we need resolution so much more.

ED is the one game that has sold more of there headsets currently than anything else. Disgrace they did not get a mention.
.
Hope ED come out with news soon if they have a Vive, how it performs and what Ed is like with it.
.
Think I will give a Microsoft / Facebook / Oculus collaboration a miss.

I don't agree. I have the DK2 looking pretty acceptable right now and I haven't even upgraded to a 980 yet so I can up the DSR. The more I play the more I really feel like I want FOV more than I do resolution (if I had to choose one or the other).

Also the Vive specs are dev kit specs. Nothing is final.

FOV is software dependent so I don't get that part of your point. But ok, if the Vive give us more resolution, I'm sold.

Remember, Pascal is coming out next year so it will soon be very possible to get better resolution.

Hadn't it always been insignificant? That's always been my bone of contention... I've always championed Frontier as pioneers of VR implementation, but aside from showing Elite in VR at demos that seems to be as far as it has ever gone! I'd have loved to have heard Frontiers name mentioned tonight but I never thought it would happen. elite Dangerous and the Rift was always way too underplayed on both sides IMO.

Thought the Rift looked cool though! :)

Bigger "hardware" FOV will make left and right black border nearly disappear. It's different than software FOV where you dispatch whatever FOV you want in the limit of the hardware FOV. DK2 have only 100°, DK1 had 110°, so it's more immersive. Software can't fix that. unfortunately ;) So in sumary, I want bigger FOV and better resolution! ;)

I was a bit disappointed with the rift reveal to be honest. Best thing for me was that adjustable ipd was confirmed as that's the main thing I struggle with in the dk2.

I might be being too harsh but when they revealed the rift ships with an Xbox controller I was so underwhelmed. It seemed to me like they were saying "we realised that vr needs a better input device and we've been working like mad to try and make it but we are not there yet. We realised that we can't let that delay release any longer or we will be eaten alive by the competition before we even get started. So we decided to just dump an Xbox controller in for now and be done with it".

As I say, I might be being too harsh.

And frontier not getting a mention for elite was odd.

I don't think its that clear cut... I don't think ive ever heard oculus even mention Elite Dangerous in promo terms. Besides they were only showcasing games specifically built for VR. I'd love for them to give Frontier a slice of that ten million VR pot and ask them to build a VR specific version of Elite... elite dangerouser! :p

Ok silly me.

Hit the nail on the head. Not only is it a slapdash solution for a lack of inputs, but it is an alarming step towards the 'livingroom - ization' that hardware developers like Oculus and nvidia seem to be pushing as of late. Makes me, as a hard core pc gamer feel a bit left out... So equivocal about even bothering with the CV1. As someone else pointed out, with DSR, the DK2 looks great- nothing REALLY compelling about the CV1 so far. And I have a pair of $300 audiophile headphones, so no thanks to the built in earphones (even though you can remove them- just one more thing to raise the retail price even higher)
.
What also really sucks is that they're packaging the Xbone controller with CV1. You have no choice but to get that useless thing... And PAY for it, with CV1. Blegh...

I think we need to get some confirmation from Frontier about what the future holds. If they intend on a partnership elsewhere then I think we deserve to hear about it before pre-orders begin for the CV1. I don't want to end up with a CV1 and then Frontier announce an exclusive partnership with Steam.

I wouldn't be surprised if the reason FDEV struggled with getting Direct Mode and 0.6.0.0 working is because Oculus purposely hindered their efforts in favor of their partnership with CCP.

I don't agree but mostly because I wouldn't want that to be true... I certainly have no evidence either way. My understanding was that FD always had issues with getting the cobra engine to play nicely with Direct mode. I'm hope you are just being paranoid... DB already said they plan to support ALL the major VR types. How cool would it be if the game they announce at E3 was a VR exclusive! Besides they have the oculus logo next to NVIDIAS on their site. If there were issues surely it wouldn't be there? AMds isn't there! Optimism brother! ;)
