Hi folks,

Oculus Rift (the proper finished consumer version) is now open for pre-order: https://shop.oculus.com/en-us/cart/

Apparently they don't charge you now before they start shipping, it's more like a waiting list to ensure you get one soonish if the demand rockets. Apparently it'll be available sometime in the first quater of this year.

I'm sure this isn't the exact right forum for this but just a heads up as many will be interested :)

edit
Sorry just saw theother thread on this subject. Can we delete this?

I'm going to wait for the vive. I've only heard positive things from it so far and many many people found it better than the rift. I tried the rift and it just made me encounter really bad nausea. Vive with the higher refresh etc is supposed to be a little better at that.

If I'm going to spent $1000 for VR (yeah the Canadian Dollar vs the US makes it insanely pricey to get) it better be the best damn one.

£499 in GBP

+ Shipping
+ Tax

Means it'll be around £625-650 to your door.

Still ordered one though. Love my DK2 and can't wait for better resolution. It's cheaper than my other option which was to go out and buy three decent gaming monitors. My monitor is cheap rubbish at the moment and VR is far more immersive than three screens anyway!

At $600us which will convert to £600 in the uk with tax added I think I will sit on my hands and let the market mature. Vive looks interesting and potentially better.

However, I have my eye on StarVR with its bigger screens. Long way to go for it but I think that will be the best if they sort out the texture loading/eye focal-point tracking sorted.

$600 is a bit more than I was willing to spend for VR. I assume the Vive will be more. I think I'll let this mature before jumping in...VR is not something I want to go through with the early adopter pains at that that price point.

£500 price includes tax in the uk only have to pay for shipping. Have some rep too as I didn't know about this

Matches my sentiment 100%.

I really do think they are money grabbing, and if they came in at a cheaper price point they may have achieved more sale, but hey what do i know!!!!!
