OCULUS NVidia Drivers way behind on compatability!

Bought a Rift. Still trying to work out if my eyes are way off, or I'm able to see the pattern of the Fresnel lenses in what I'm looking at in ED. (any pointers would be appreciated)

Anyways, back at the ranch..... OCULUS recommend still only to use NVidia Driver 388.59 is there any chance of FD leaning on Oculus to lean on NVidia to kind of sort it all out?
You've got a great product. Oculus has a great product, NVidia have got great products........why on earth can't you all get together and put out the best you can at the same time. I'm about 4 iterations BEHIND ordinary Nvidia Card users all because I want to use RIFT.

Is there something you're missing in the latest drivers that you don't have in 388.59? Unless there's a step-change in performance between drivers (which rarely happens) I wouldn't worry about it. For the record 391.05 works great, but yes VR is still on the bleeding edge of things and more likely to break.

As for the Fresnel lenses, they definitely make god rays worse but changing the HUD colors and adjusting gamma in Elite makes a big difference. But you weren't that specific in your original question so I'm not sure what the exact issue is.

Sorry, along the orange panel strips especially I see 45 degree /// or \\\ depending upon whether or not I look left or right. Its faint but noticeable. Text is also a bit blurry, but so are my eyes.

On the graphic driver, Oculus site STILL recommends NO HIGHER than Driver Version 388.59, as I intimated.

Thanks for trying to assist.

Oculus's is one thing.
But I'm on latest, or next to latest drivers and they seem just fine.
Nothing out of the ordinary for elite.

Could possibly be a unity/Unreal engine bug for VR. which constitutes 99% all VR games.
But a lot of the 'hardcore' titles like Elite, Project cars, DCS etc are running on in house developed engines.

I wouldn't take that to heart, I'm mostly just ranting here.
But remember if you do downgrade, make sure you also run an updated version of the Nvidia driver cleaner or you at best end up with something between the two drivers and could cause all kinds of issues.

From what I just googled on the issue. if you have this problem the rift will be completely black.
Unless you have this problem I see no reason to downgrade the driver.

Although, unlike setting your date back, running an older driver isn't a big deal.
Also Nvidia is pushing updates almost every week. so that driver isn't much more than a month old.

Changing your HUD color to something on the blue/green spectrum can really help with the blurry text and god rays (Dr. Kaii's ED profiler tool is great for this purpose). Also try supersampling at 1x and raise HMD quality as far as you can while maintaining acceptable framerates. HMDQ helps with text.

Changed to the recommended driver. Locked in an endless loop now in the hanger and can't get back into the game. Don't know whats going on at OCULUS but beginning to think this company is being run in a basement with out of country tech support.
Im just about at the point to uninstall everything again and go back to the latest Nvidia drivers which worked just fine for me and see if its just a brain fart at OCULUS home:eek:

The older driver is recommended only if you are having problems with the newer versions. Some people do, some don't.
I wouldn't be at all surprised if nvidia isn't helping oculus figure the bugs out. After all it's as you said, oculus says dont use the older drivers, that dosen't look well on nvidia.

Run this.
Preferably from safe mode

Reinstall a fresh driver, personal recommendation.
Do not install GeForce experience.
It's become a bloated pile of caca software.
