Oculus offers a free CV1 to their kickstarter backers :)

Yep, got an email. Couldn't believe it quite frankly. What a time to be alive.

I couldn't fill out the address form quick enough ;-)

I notice there are already sore DK2 users on Twitter unsurprisingly. They really ought to at least offer DK2 users a discount.

Absolutely fantastic for the Kickstarter backers.
I missed out on the kickstarter, but am very likely to pre order tomorrow.

Can't wait.

Do you mean that some DK2 buyers could be entitled to get one as well?
Do you have a link to provide?

I didn't say that. I'm just pretending to be sympathetic to those complaining on twitter about it ;-)

Really it's nice for us DK1 kickstarters because we paid quite a bit for a pretty rough dev prototype.

I honestly think DK2 users *should* get a discount (at least) because in my opinion they kind of targeted the DK2 at consumers even if they pretended not to. Neither kits were consumer ready, hadn't passed the appropriate safety tests (I assume) and were really only suitable for developers but I kind of think that they liked the cash.

Just got my survey email through - was going to buy a CV1 anyway, but this is fantastic :)

Does this only include DK1's from the Kickstarter and no immediately afterwards?

I believe it's for the $300 pledge and above on the original KS (they are using the KS survey mechanism for updating address details). I forgot that it was possible to get a DK1 from the Oculus website after the KS.

*massive sad face*

I pledged on the Kickstarter but could not afford the DK1 until the week after it closed :(

Yeah - only DK1 device Kickstarters Kerrash :( Better get that F5 working at 4pm tomorrow!

(I'm almost tempted to order another one)

Might be quite a shrewd idea to push out units to evangelist/early adopter types maybe? I was certainly among those uploading videos to YouTube during 2013 of me playing via the rift.

Or maybe just a publicity stunt gesture.

I'm not complaining though. I wasn't planning on updating my DK1 until I knew for sure that the Rift worked on ED

I suspect it's honestly a thankyou to those who ponied up the cash early on. Assuming £400 retail price, that's about £3m of freebies which is probably petty cash for the company these days.

That is awesome! I'm not a backer but I applaud oculus for doing folks right with such a massive surprise. I am a little envious since I cant afford one for the forseeable future but man! THIS IS HOW YOU TREAT THE FAITHFUL!!! go oculus!

after watching the video from lucky palmer and co I feel like a menopausal woman..I'm smiling and crying at the same time. tomorrow will be a historical day for gamers the world over. I'm frantically running around the house looking for things to sell on ebay lmao..anyone need an 87' K5 Blazer with a new engine and 40" tires?..
