Oculus requires linked facebook account for VR

heh That's fracking lame, I guess they want to make it real easy for lots of us to simply rule out oculus as a VR option..lol Great reason to simply skip facebook HMD and go straight to Index or better yet Reverb G2 with index controllers/tracking!

losing an alternative is never a good thing though. at best it is one less competitor to push the others, at worst it sets a precedent for other companies.
reality will probably end up somewhere in the middle.

I just leave it here ;)

I just finally got my index last week, but the reverb g2 was a strong alternative.
If the index would have delayed another month, I'd have probably changed my order.

If that ever became necessary [and Oculus just became my last choice] I would simply set up a fB account and never use it, never comment, never add friends or groups or anything.

But remember, even if you do nothing with your fB account, fB will now have your oculus details about everything you do with your Oculus including:

Games you play
Anybody you play with
Sites you visit using your Oculus
Any films/TV us watch
Any social media you use now or in the future
Credit card details
etc

Before the next 2 years are up I will be selling mine and get one from another manufacture; lucky for me I bought Elite directly and I only have free games from Oculus; must suck if you have bought lots of games.

I guarantee that you won't need to log into your Facebook account every time you wanna use the Oculus Rift

looks like facebook doesn't care about promises in the past. To be fair, he probably wasn't in the position to promise anything anymore after selling Oculus to them.

There is still hope that facebook sees the error of this - I know some that have cancelled their Rift S preorder and switched to alternatives. Unfortunately, those are more expensive, not everyone can afford them.

I was on the fence. The current offerings from Oculus never seemed worth the upgrade from my OG rift (which is new setup in my living room where there is a lot more room to flail around and run room scale games), and I was waiting to see what they came out with as I'm not a huge fan of the inside out WMR tracking, and the index just had too much sticker shock at the time.

Well, guess what I've decided I just need to bite the bullet and order? Three hints, and the first two don't count, it's not an Oculus product.

You may order it then return or sell if you dont like. Its 100% you will keep it and never back to low-res headsets.

I am using wmr tracking since a years and never had issue with it. Tracking in G2 is improved for some rare cases where old wmr tracking couldnt handle.

I doubt I will still using my CV1 by 2023, but I guess that who knows? I guess I'll have to make an account with a new gmail and stock pics if that's the case.

  1. Elite
  2. no-one
  3. none, I'd use a scrn for everything but 1.
  4. see 3.
  5. none [I'm a boring old so and so] - well, I have What's App on my phone but not facebook
  6. why would fB have my credit card details if I bought the Oculus from an online store
meh, doesn't matter anyway, I won't be getting one
