Oculus restarting my computer- I have tried everything...

Hi all,
My PC is restarting within 5 minutes from playing elite dangerous with the oculus rift. Here is my system:
MB: ASrock extreme 4
GPU: EVGA 1080
CPU: i7 3770k OC 4.6 GHZ
RAM: 16GB 1600MHZ 9-9-9-24
Cooling: Noctura NH-16 and big fans
PSU: ATX 700W

TESTs done:
Kumbuster for both CPU and GPU temps. I can run this all day with no issues.
Average/Max CPU Temp: 52/86c
Average/Max "GPU Temp: 55/72c
Ram test came back with no errors.
Used both 2.0 and 3.0 USB ports for Oculus
Used Driver booster to verify drivers are updated.
Geforce experience confirms 1080 drivers are updated.

The PC works perfectly, in Ultra, using a 1080p monitor and hotas. While playing E:D in VR, my cpu usage is rarely above 60%. GPU usage is 80-99%. I dont know what else to test. Thanks for your suggestions.

If I were you, I'd look at PSU.

Do you have anyone who can lend you one for tests?

I reckon when VR is pushing you machine to the max the PSU is simply giving up, hence restarts.

Some things to check, only my experience.

My feeling is that something is overheating causing a shutdown. EIPueblo could have the answer there so do test the PSU !

MSI afterburner is a good piece of software to use as it keeps track of the usage temps in real-time whilst playing games. And allows for custom fan profiles, and overclocking etc.
I stopped using GeForce Experience (as many have) a long time ago as it causes conflicts with your personal game settings.... ...it’s pretty duff.

Its a long shot and this may not be your immediate problem but, the sensor for the oculus uses a lot of bandwidth, and so with my setup it caused the HOTAS to switch off completely after five minutes playtime or so. Eventuall, after unplugging some unnecessary peripherals and swapping around the USB ports (spreading them around). I got it to work, but then I experienced white flashes in ED. So bought one of these 5Gbps USB boards, which solved all my problems.

Strange. 700w psu is definitely enough, and it's only happening in Elite, could be hard drive failure. Try reinstalling in a different drive or location.

Instant restarts is usually the psu. Sometimes it's also the gpu, black screen, slightly delayed restart.

You could install msi afterburner and underclock the gpu.

Could also disable the cpu/memory overclock to see if that makes a difference.

If you want to really test the stability of the system try running unigine heaven (or another looping "real" benchmark, NOT furmark/kombustor) and ~6 threads of prime95 (to have some cpu left for the gpu bench) at the same time. This will stress the cpu a lot more than games so the psu will be heavily loaded too. If the psu is faulty this might not be without risk, even though a modern 700W unit should easily cope, maybe do it last.
