Oculus Rift: Audio problems with audio going to OR or speakers, and having to manually select.

I've noticed recently I'm having to nursemaid the audio output settings to manually select my OR or standard PC speakers (headphones).

To my mind if the OR is being used, audio should automatically come out of its speakers. And if the OR is not being used, then the audio should revert to the standard output. Is there anyway to set this up?

ps: I also, for the first time ever, recently had to tell Discord to use my microphone from my standard headset, as it one day decided to instead use the mic on the OR. Similar issue!

Well I don't use the Rift headphones, preferring to use a better quality closed back variety. The settings should be left as they are, which gives people a choice. What you need to do is find out why your settings keep changing.

My PC is set to "speakers" - When I use my PC for 90% of the time I want the audio to come out of my speakers (or my headphones in reality).

Recently, I've found that when I play titles on the OR, I have to manually change the audio output on Windows 10 to the OR Headphones. And then of course set them back afterwards...

This behaviour I believe is new...

I'll swear the Oculus Tray Tool used to have a setting along these lines, to automatically ensure audio was set correctly... but I can't see it in there...

Well that is strange. Oculus software problem possibly? I have a similar problem with AMD graphics drivers. When they update, after the reboot my default audio device becomes my monitor instead of my soundcard. They fixed it a few updates ago after I reported it, but I did an update this morning and it's broken again. Another bug report to send off. Anyway, have you tried the Oculus forums? You may not be alone. If I find anything I will let you know.

I think it's always been a bit of a problem, hence that option in Oculus Tray Tool.

Infact here's a post talking exactly about using that option in the tool - https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/oculus-rift-audio-issues.18831435/

I'll look back in the tool to see if I can see the option...

Ok I might have found something. I think that tray tool setting is now in the main software. Start the Oculus software, and on the desktop choose devices. Then from the devices choose Rift. There are settings for audio in and out. Try changing them. Hope this helps.

Edit: Mine is set to Use Windows Settings

Oh! When I talk about "Tray Tool" I'm on about the stand alone utility ("click"), not options actually in the product. So maybe now the audio settings required are in the core settings, hence the Tray Tool utility no longer needing to offer them?

Ta, I'll have a look...

EDIT: That said the most recent version of the Tray Tool mentions "Audio Switcher improved." - https://forums.oculusvr.com/communi...pling-profiles-hmd-disconnect-fixes-hopefully

Hmmm...

Sorry, I thought you were talking about th Oculus Debug Tool, my mistake. Not a great fan of 3rd party utilities to "fix" things. OK for profiles and that.

I've always switched audio sources manually. Confuses things even more when I have my headset plugged in as well for 2D gaming, so then have 3 options, Rift, Headset, Speakers.

Found another setting in Windows 10 for you to look at.

Right click the speaker icon in the taskbar and Open Sound settings. At the bottom of the page under Other sound options, open App volume and device preferences.

Now if you start up the Rift. I did this by putting it on my forehead so I could see the desktop, as an extra option appears if done this way, you can now choose input/output options.

Hope this helps.

It’s Windows 10 and its crappy new audio implementation plus periodical updates wiping your settings and installing the drivers Microsoft thinks are better.
Had this with my laptop after every win10 update: having to manually choose the right audio when plugging in headphones :(
Reinstalling the correct drivers for my sound system fixes it for me.
