I purchased the Oculus Rift specifically for Elite
angerous.
I have logged about 60 hours with the Rift Since getting it, that equates to about 2.5 months of use.
the face place has detached and the face foam has become unglued during that time.
while I understand the face foam is a wear and tear item, the plastic framing that holds it together is not, it is I fact a manufacturing defect, as it will not snap into place thus making game play nearly impossible as it moves around and "falls" for lack of a better term when you are moving your head around.
This issue isn't a result of misuse or neglect, the face foam plate is simply snapped into the unit with molded pins that don't sit correctly in their slots.
---
I contacted Oculus via their online support, and was basically told to go pound sand. Their warranty does not cover any aspect of the unit EXCEPT the internal electronics and ONLY to a very limited degree.
Their response is that the unit itself is subject to wear and tear from use and every aspect of it from the headphone to the head gear to the face foam is a wear item and not covered.
They do not offer replacement parts either, you are left to decided if you want to pitch the unit or purchase a new unit, there is no option to repair it, not replacement Velcro, face foam, headphone foam, etc.
for a $600 unit you are basically left on your own to quell any defects or issues with the product.
BUYER BEWARE. The company DOES NOT back their product and their warranty is worded in such a way that they have legally skirted around Federal Warranty regulations by declaring the entire unit a "wear" item.
---
Yes I am aware (and just purchased) that a company makes a cloth "cover" for the unit, however that does not negate the fact that Oculus has openly declared they will not stand behind their product.
