Oculus rift dk2 keeps dropping out.

I just bought a DK2 mainly coz of ed and it is really good. However I am having issues with the rift disconnecting every so often. Can sometimes go for a couple of hours with no problem but tonight dropped 5 times in under an hour.

The rift driver software says no rift detected and I have to restart the rift via the software then it's ok again (at least until the next time!). When it drops I get a black screen, hear the windows sound when a USB device is pulled, and I have to restart the rift. Really annoying if you're fighting/docking at the time!!!

I am in latest rift and nvidia drivers and all other rift games/apps run ok. I reckon there must be a setting either in game or on nvidia panel making this happen. I am extended on rift, aa and ao are turned off in game, everything else set to med or low.

Has anyone got any ideas please?

Thanks

Firstly try connecting the rift power supply, though that is mostly just if there is a camera power issue. Switch the usb's around.
If none of that works I would think you have a bad wire. You can use your own wires to connect to the rift headset and see if that helps.
My HDMI got so gnarled a whil back it did a similar thing. I replaced with a new and it worked fine until oculus sent me a pretty braided replacement. :)

Thanks for the reply but it works on everything else with no problems, don't see how it could be a cable and I'm not using the USB so power supply shouldn't make a difference??

Try a powered usb hub for both the head unit and camera. Most powered usb hubs have more than one slot so it shouldnt be a problem anyway.

I had problems with my camera dropping out and tried everything. Then did a ton of research on the official Oculus forums, reddit, everywhere and the general concensus was to try a powered hub before getting into the finer troubleshooting, particularly if you're having either the camera or head unit drop out.

I didn't think that would fix it at the time but I had a powered usb hub lying around so thought why not.
All my problems went away when the Rift was properly powered. Been playong trouble free for over 7 months now. My bro had the same problem and the same solution fixed it for him too.

The onboard usb slots if your mobo is insufficient, particularly if you've got alot if peripherals.

Thanks for the information, I will give it a try. Would plugging in the power supply that came with the rift have the same effect?

It'll work for the head unit but not for the camera. I did that in the early days, plugged in the power brick but the camera would still drop out. I'd often not see it in the config util.

Plugged in both to the powered hub and it's been rock steady ever since.

Hi, just to say thanks as with your help I got it working. I did a bit more googling and found that there could be problems if rift is plugged into USB 3.0 which is all I have on my mobo. Bought a USB 2.0 header, installed, and hasn't dropped out yet.....

Thanks again.

Thanks mate - powered USB 3.0 hub seems to have worked for me also on RT 0.8 on Windows 10 and Steam VR - the constant disconnections of the DK2 headset were driving me nuts!
