No way I will pre-order it to this price, especially given I'd need to update many parts of my PC, too.
Happy to safe 600 bucks, then.
One should always see the bright side of things :)

That's just priced about 95% of the people out of the market, far to expensive. need to target 300-350

Get rid of the games and the xbone controller and that'll chop at leat 100 off, hate packaged items, have to see the vibe

Yep, as per my merged/closed thread, it was $849 Canadian! With Taxes, shipping and then duty/brokerage, it would be well over $1000. Holy moly.

I'll let the market shake itself out and see where FD goes with this, read the reviews of Vive etc and then make a decision later in the year. DK2 will do for now.

I'm from the UK, where we always get ripped off. $600=£400 approx.

I guess the UK price will be £600.

$599 = £410.59 ... not £499.plus shipping... no way am i paying that... will stick to my Edtraker till they come down in price or without the xbone controller and 2 crap games... gutted

Is there a bug in the shop? It shows a price of 59900$ instead of 599$.
Law of supply and demand ... *cough cough*

If the competitors ask similar prices I fear that VR will be dead before it started. I don't see a big customer base at that price range. If they don't succeed in having a decent customer base within 1-2 years nobody will develop software for VR sets anymore.
You can count me in for VR in 2-4 generations when I can get a 4k+ VR set for ~300 bucks and a decent GPU (running 90+fps @ultra + AA) for the same price. If not ... well, there will be somebody else who wants my money.

If you are waiting for the Vive to come out cheaper, I'd suggest you buy some booze and something to wipe your tears with now, as it's going to be MORE expensive than the CV1 is, as they just added that oh so important front facing camera, and don't forget, it comes with not 1 position tracker but 2! And it also comes with those handy dandy controllers that HTC/Steam put together for use with it as well, which bumps the price up.

I was figuring the CV1 would be around the $600 USD mark for commercial release, it's new tech and it's built with good materials and designed to be customized for differing head sizes, ocular positioning and so on. The Vive I figure will be +200 more than the CV1 due to that oh so fancy front camera, after all, that thing pushed release back for months, can't have been easy or cheap to get it in there. Add in the extra positional tracker and the controllers, at least another +200 for those, I figure the Vive will be in the $1000 USD range, might be as low as $800 USD, but I'm thinking a grand is the most likely price when all is said and done.
