Oculus Rift Sound too low all of a sudden

Hi Guys,

benn using my Rift without any problems the last two years. Took a little break from using it but put it back on for the Beta. Everything still worked fine. But today all of a sudden the sound levels are really low. I need to bump it up to 100% and would like to go even higher. I had it set to around 30% in the past.
I have no idea what caused this. Tried all kinds of stuff but to no avail. Did anyone of you ever encounter this "bug"?

In the beta they reset all volume settings to default. I'm fairly certain this will have affected the live game also because they share the same settings file.

If it's not that, check the Windows volume settings for Rift Audio. I cannot remember if this is distinct from the Rift volume or if they are one and the same, someone else will be sure to chime in

Numerous places the volume can be adjusted, including in the Oculus settings, Windows Sound settings (check volume mixer specifically) and in-game under the audio settings. Check also to see if it Full Range is selected, it bumps the volume if I recall correctly.

all sliders, in Game+Oculus Home+windows settings are maxed out. No change. On the road now, what i did not try is to try a different usb port for the rift

I get this sometimes, the only thing I find that consistently stops it from happening is to make sure I manually swap my sound output to my rift before opening the elite launcher or clicking play from oculus. Obviously this may not apply to your system whatsoever.

The setting I mentioned specifically is a pull-down above the sliders. It's got 3 options I think, though I forgot what the specific phrasing is at the moment.

did not see anything like that. Change of USB ports did not help either. Very strange

Boost option?

It's under 'Optimise For'. I guess there could be a not-insignificant difference between Boost and Nighttime.

it is not just ED specific. The HMD is too quiet alltogether.

Yup, that's the one I was thinking of.

dape, it's drastic but perhaps try reinstalling the Oculus software? I can't think of any other sound options that might be effecting it, and if it's not ED specific, sounds like an Oculus issue.
