I borrowed one yesterday and I have to say I'm mightily impressed. I've not sat and played a game today, I've actually been inside a space ship flying around the galaxy. :)

It's unfortunate that until the headset resolutions improve, the fine detail of Elite, with all the tiny pinpoint stars and sharp HUD lines don't make it the ideal game to run on it, but the feeling of immersion is simply phenomenal.

The only problem I'm encountering so far is that I can't find a good way to manipulate the galaxy map with the Rift on.

That's not what the galaxy map is anymore though.
That persistent circle cursor has disappeared after Gamma.
Is it possible to get it back somehow?
It's near impossible to use with just the mouse.

EDIT: Nevermind.. apparently it's bound to the grid visibility for whatever reason...

Once I started to use my HOTAS set up to manipulate the map, using it became a lot easier. I only use the mouse and keyboard for switching UI panels and for searching. Oh and for selecting 'plan route' etc (that should be key navigable and selectable too FD!).

I suspect it will get an overhaul when CV1 comes out. At the moment it is probably not worth FD fixing for the DK2 as they don't know what might change.

I ordered mine 02/02/15 and mines on back order, I can only presume they have a few distribution places all over the place

Can't wait to get my hands on it

I ordered mine on 29th January, I've just received a note about shipping from UPS about it. It stayed "awaiting inventory" until this morning so this status may mean "order not yet processed by them-as-does-these-things" rather than an actual wait for inventory.

Oculus Rift and LeapMotion support

Did anyone try Oculus Rift with LeapMotion? They have an app that looks similar to the Galaxy Map. So I thought it might work in the game as well. Does anyone have the experience?

The galaxy map works fine with a HOTAS in the Rift. It just takes a while to work out what each hat does.

The only problem is typing system names in. You have to peer down your nose to find the keys but it's fine if you can touch type once you get your hands settled.

fwiw, once the system and the little 'plan route' UI panel pops open, I use the "hat" thingy on the top of joystick (thrustmaster) to select 'plan route' by pressing it right a couple of times. So you can get at it without a mouse.
