Oculus SDK 0.8 + Horizons 64bit + Win 7 64bit + SteamVR = Formula for success finally!

I am lead to believe that running 0.8 via SteamVR adds some overhead and can reduce performance to some degree. Only MAX spec PC's have been able to run Horizons on Ultra settings at 75fps, and even they have to disable AO and some other non critical features.

The recent announcement that ED will support the Rift natively on March 28th should be good news for everyone.

i got it running, but with latest steamvr beta, the judder is huge, i tried older betas, the same.

Any ideas?

In OP there was idea about "LOW" graphics mode. Strange, but it's working. Anyway with disgusting quality of Oculus display (grain dimensions and horizontal angles of view) and too wide spaced elements of dashboard (target hitpoints/subsystem dots) it is far more suitable to use good LCD display.

Well, I have used the OP instructions, and they work. VR is a real game changer. OK, the resolution is not great (yet), and I am having to learn to touch-type!, but the views are INCREDIBLE. I cannot wait for native support!

Thanks OP, I just got a new rig and can now play perfectly with 0.8 and all settings on High\Ultra. I set my monitor up as 1024x768@75hz and run on a 4k screen with a boxed window.
Very smooth and with the window on my monitor I can now show my friends the game and help them, as I can now see what they are seeing.

You didn't managed to get it running correctly and then went on to compound your error by making a sweeping statement that has no basis in fact.

An alternative many use to touch typing, is Voice Attack. Some even put in letters and numbers so you can handle the galaxy map better. This should be even easier when bookmarks go live. I just touch type. Good life skill.

It is OK, it is ALWAYS worth adding a new skill to the range. I know the layout, just got to get some speed into the equation (and make sure the accuracy either stays or improves).

Thanks OP for the excellent guide! [up] Great writeup with notes about differences etc with the new SDK and other tidbits! (Selecting the ED mirror window etc).

I'm a rather casual ED player atm, and while it's two or three weeks since I last played it I didn't want to wait until monday for that new Oculus runtime/driver just now. And VR is a must with this game! Also, I was rather behind on Oculus runtimes, having kind of stopped at 0.5.0.1. Until now. I'm sure I'd never have guessed that SteamVR beta thing (I just briefly tried it earlier but it never worked ofc, probably since I used that old runtime, and not beta). Still sorting settings, but basically it's back to were I had it on the good'ol runtime 0.5. Great stuff! :D

Steam has just had an update [down] Washed out colours, screen looks like VR version of mirror, side panels and reset HMD don't work. Camera blue light on!
