Oculus Software 0/10

In order to get Oculus to run on my Windows 10 PC I have:

1. Disabled Windows update since the new year to prevent the Autumn 2017 Creators Update that borks Oculus VR

2. Disabled nVidia Driver updates to prevent problems with new drivers.

3. Set the date and time on my PC to two days ago to enable the software to run.

Am I missing anything else? :(

Has #1 been sorted and I missed it?

Yup you are missing the Oculus fix for the certificate issue and setting your PCs date and time back to its correct setting before you really screw your system up.

Indeed. This is no longer 1999 and a lot of connected authentication, and pretty much anything that communicates with an online server, and all of these relies on a correctly set clock.

In short system time is important.
I have no issues running a fully updated windows 10.
Besides the registry tweaks disabling updates DOES NOT WORK anymore.

Only thing needed to do for ed vr and the "creators update" was to turn off the DVR game functions.
easily done through the control panel.

That said.

Windows update, especially for feature updates tend to implode themselves leaving a lot of half working parts of the OS.

A lot of these bugs, and non working hardware people are experience are most likely from a broken update install.
Not necessarily the update itself.

People is for some reason as loathe to do an OS reset as a homophibic jock when exposed to the idea of a little vice versa, even though this can take no more than a few hours at most with a bit of planning and recommended practices even less.
For instance moving the documents folder off the C: drive along with game library folders etc.

Same has gone for ED as well.
Reinstalling from scratch has sorted the stuttering and occasional freezes I was experiencing pre and slightly worse after 3.0

Re reg tweak to disabling update - A M$ support staff member did this for me remotely. No more updates.

Having said that I'm interested to know more about the DVR functions I need to switch off or more precisely - how to.

All Settings > Gaming > Game DVR > Record in teh background while I'm playing a game > off.

You might want to turn off the game bar too, depends if you use it or not, can't say it makes any difference that I can detect for me.

the only thing that sorted all my VR issues was to reset the PC (removes all apps & settings/files) completely, install the Nvidia 388.59 drivers and a clean install of ED & Oculus software.

NB: those issues we're nothing to do with the farce that was the expired certificate from a few days ago.

Sorry OP, but haven't had to do any of those things except apply the recent patch from Oculus. Works fine with all Win 10 and Nvidia updates AFAIK.
