Oculus starting to die

I just sent this to Oculus Support:

Hi,

A problem has developed in the last few weeks. It's gotten worse. At this point, when I haven't played for a while, when I try to turn on the DK2 it simply does not turn on 9 times out of 10. I have to remove and replace the cables and then it turns on. But even then, it will not stay on for long. It will go off, and then come back on, but once it is back on the screen is black. Sometimes removing and replacing the cables again will help, but rarely.

1 time out of 10 I will be able to have it on without issue for hours.

As nothing has changed on my PC and it's an issue that has been worsening, I am fairly certain it is the Oculus Rift itself, or at the very least, the cables.

Given the behaviour, however, I don't think it is the cables as they are tightly in place and the way it disconnects seems to happen in a way that is too regular and seems to be a power issue. But I would like to hear your advice.

If it is the device itself, would you replace it?

Thanks,
James

Just wondering if anyone has had any similar issues, or has any advice? Will they replace it?

Sound like the cables. Easy enough to change out and check.
Oculus support are generally very good. They will likely ask for photographic evidence and ask you to try some things. For me the issue was a cable, which they replaced immediately.

oculus should replace anything needed to get up and running again. I had to contact them for a new cable set and they shipped it to me free of charge. I think i had the new cables in under a week.

Yeah they did the same for me, took a few weeks though as they were waiting on a shipment themselves.

I have this issue.
It only happens when the DK2 is in Extended and you try and turn it on.

To fix it change it to Direct, Turn it on, Change it back to Extended.
It's not that the DK2 is dying, it's more likely something to do with the most recent runtime.

My original DK2 cable has been damaged and no longer works. I bought replacement generic HDMI and USB cables and my DK2 does work with them, but the image is jittery and jumps about a bit.

I contacted Oculus support last week hoping they would offer a replacement cable, but they told me replacement parts are not available.

Any ideas how I can get them to send me a new cable?? Id love to have my DK2 working properly again.

Don't ask for a replacement cable. You should have told them the device is faulty, they'll send you a new one.

They won't send spare parts, but they will happily give you a new unit, package up the old one and send it back once you have the new unit. Turn around time for me just under two weeks going to the Middle East

Thanks for the advice 777Driver. I will try contacting Oculus again soon, this time I will tell them the device is faulty.
