Touch controllers to control a spaceship truly in 6Dof would be very interesting. Especially if you move away from the joystick paradigm. Hotas is for aerodynamic flying, a spaceship would ideally be controlled differently. So touch makes sense, but it's unknown how exactly.
There was a video demo of a space game prototype where you simply rest the touch controllers on your arm rests and use them as joystick, but you can always move the touch controllers away from the armrest and activate virtual buttons in your cockpit.
Or even control the whole ship motion (each hand has full 6DOF after all) and use the other hand to aim your turrets.
You simply need to find a new way to do it. It's almost required if you ever want to combine walking around on your ship with flying.
