Oculus vs Vive - Does vive still have issues? With £100 off I feel like asking again!

While all that makes great sense, it doesn't actually explain the fact that when you crank up supersampling on the Vive you get to rift clarity levels. The part with debug tool from other poster was interesting, I also stumbled upon an interesting pixel density examples in E: D : https://forums.oculus.com/community/discussion/51256/pixel-density-examples#latest

Raising the supersampling on the Vive helps to counteract the slightly lower sweet-spot pixel resolution. Rendering more pixels, then down-sampling back to the panel resolution still improves the overall image. Obviously at a cost - each rendered frame takes more GPU power to create. Using a supersampling/HMD Quality setting of 1.25x means 1.56x more pixels are being rendered. Supersampling is a brute-force method of improving image quality.

However, given the same hardware, a Rift user can bump the supersampling up the same amount, and thus see an improved image too, which would still end up looking better than the Vive at the same increased settings.
There's no doubt that subtle differences in the optics and fresnel lens design have small but noticeable impacts on the VR user experience.

But its up to all of us individually, because we all see differently, and perceive our vision differently - to identify (or ignore) what annoys us about the VR experience. What one VR user finds limiting about the slightly narrower field of view in the Rift is another users boon being able to see slightly finer detail, especially text. Both major headset designs (and all the others) have trade-offs.

I still find it amazing, and we're only just starting out.

If trying CV1 do note that the current Runtime1.13 is bugged and has regular jumps each 10-20secs. This was not there before and is now fixed in their Public Test Version and so a fix is coming very soon. The Rift is lighter but after 2hours you can begin to get aches. You can pusg yourself past this and become hardened to it. I have done 6hour stretches before although I did get sore eyes and is now a slight problem I must clear up as I wear contact lenses. However when I wear glasses I can actually much more clearly moving my eyes around which is at times slightly blurred without glasses.

The vive and rift are the same weight now http://www.roadtovr.com/htc-vive-we...n-original-headset-vs-oculus-rift-comparison/

What he's saying is true.
There is no going back to 2d for most of us. There are a few 4k oddballs out there ;-) but the general consensus is that its better to sit IN the starship cockpit than LOOK AT the starship cockpit. It is that good.

Also, be warned - if you do try VR, it will probably change your mindset from "they want HOW MUCH for that TOY?" to "where can I get the cash for my headset?" :D

Yeah, I do enjoy my Rift. Got mine second hand for a bargain, so it was an easy choice. I still love standing up and having a good look around the cockpit of each ship I have not flown in VR before. Faulcon Delacey need to sack their wiring staff. They leave cables just lying on the floor of the Python, ruining what otherwise, seems like quite a "homey" old school style bridge.

Agree... the Anaconda suffers the same rubbish wiring. Still, you can host a party on the Anaconda's bridge, and then some.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that the 2.3 beta seems a step up scale quality and performance wise on the Vive,
Someone here suggested its because FD are now rendering the correct output for steam VR, having run live client then 2.3 beta I tend would agree here's hoping it makes it to the live release.

I was getting an occasional tracking jump, plus a few other issues and they told me to just send my Rift back for a replacement. My 2nd replacement is now on the way to me. Here's hoping it's 3rd time lucky. (Tip: Don't throw away any of your packaging just in case. Makes it so much easier to send back should you need to.) At least the support and replacement process is much faster now than it was at launch. They're getting better.

If there is a weight difference between the two it is so slight you'd hardly notice if at all. BTW the Vive is now also getting a new strap addon that looks almost identical to the Rift one, complete with detachable headphones. $100 though, so a little bit pricey. https://www.vive.com/uk/vive-deluxe-audio-strap/

For some reason the worst thing that affects me when doing VR with either HMD, is doing standing roomscale stuff. It must make me hold my standing posture differently when I'm in VR somehow, as I nearly always have bad lower back ache after a standing session. Seated, the only thing I get is the usual VR face, like I've been wearing scuba gear for the last few hours.

Tip for new VR users. Don't do a long VR session before you're due to go out in public and meet people, as the VR face indent takes a little while to go away.

thanks for this. i was not getting it anywhere near as bad as you but what the heck. i have the beta build now. unlike before it is available to everyone at the click of a button so not such a biggie.

if it does not work or has other issues there is always the option to roll back
