Odd head/view placement

Hi, Just got my new Rift working and started ED. Put in VR high and 3D headphone setting. Looks amazing and huge. But my placement is way off. in the hanger my head is on the floor. It seems set for me standing up in the middle of the room. Likewise in ship, my view is from my groin! not very commander like :)
How do I adjust this point of view?
I heard mention of hitting F12.....did nothing.
Thanks for any help as I'm totally new to this.

There should be a "reset hmd display" option under controls that you can set. I have mine set to the [ ` ] key, and I repurposed my "headlook toggle" button to do the same on my joystick. Don't need it with VR, after all. ;)

Recheck the binding for "reset HMD" is in the keybinding sections.
If you are using a custom key binding it might not be set, or just some other buttons.

I have mine on the throttle and find myself using it fairly often.
It's not that my rift drifts, but my chair does...

Great found that. OMG!! This game is so stunning in VR. The scale is scary big! I love it. While I'm on....I can get the game sound through my speakers but not my oculus headphones. They work in the oculus home page and games but not in ED. Any help with that?

Go to the ED audio options and select the sound device you want.

I use the Vive but I'm guessing it's the same sort of thing. There was an option somewhere for me that when I turn VR on, I can switch the default audio device and mic device to the correct ones. And then when I turn VR off, I can switch them back. Those options were in the SteamVR setup for me.

Failing that (or if it sometimes doesn't switch correctly) then you can just force the system to choose the audio device through the normal volume control box. I have noticed occasionally Elite does put audio out the wrong device, but that last option always fixed it for me.

And yes, this game is amazing in VR [yesnod]

They do, it's under settings -> devices -> then click on the rift HMD itself.
You have the option for Windows default, RIFT, and both, as in a mirrored output.

It is a bit odd though with the oculus, if you use the oculus home environment to start, it uses the oculus setting (defaults to hmd of course) if you launch elite from an old install or a game outside the oculus home it uses windows default output, so you would have to manually shift that to the HMD before starting.

I have taken my rift's audio phones off, and just use my wireless cans instead, mostly because the mic in my rift sound a bit buggered.

Since I was having to reset the view position every time I started ED, and often would adjust it again later in game (because I moved my chair, or decided to sit up instead of slouching, etc), I wanted something easier than a key combination, and didn't want to spare a button on the HOTAS. So I ended up ordering the X-keys USB 3 Switch Interface, which lets you use buttons/switches that use headphone plugs (such as this one, though you can rig up something a lot more cheaply). The software allows you to program keyboard/mouse inputs for those buttons, and save it to interface's firmware, so it'll function the same even if you move it to another computer. I have two buttons hooked up to it, one for resetting the view position, and one for taking screenshots. I can just reach up and slap the appropriate button whenever I need to. So I have one positioned in front of each HOTAS device. Super easy to use, once set up. :)
