Odd penal decision.

The other day I picked up a really silly unsafe flying fine, I'm still annoyed about it, but that's by the by. I decided to pay it straight away so I docked as anonymous and paid the 200 whatever they ares. I thought that would be the end of it, but no.

I was then shown the "We're going to send you to a penal system" screen. I had an option, I could choose my loadout for 0 cost, or, well, the other option didn't exist, there was nothing to click.

Now I'm guessing something went wrong here, but maybe I'm missing something. I should add I had nothing else outstanding, no fines, no legacy, no nothing, I was squeaky clean.

Is this correct or busted?

Thanks.

This is somewhat worrying. Harsh penalties (or at least inconvenient ones) for minor infractions and System Security ships attacking clean players as well as each other!

Scoob.

Definitely nothing else outstanding I fly as clean as I can unless I'm doing nefarious things! So it must have been a bug. I must start frapping.

Next time look at the screen - it tell you it's gonna send you to jail. You can choose not to (but have to stay anonymous). Or you can choose to go to jail. Which you did.

Next time read the fine-print ;)

Yeah similar thing happened to me - got a fine for reckless flying (as if), so next time I was back at the station (anonymous access) I paid off the fine (400 cr I think) and it was straight to jail, do not pass go etc. a bit of an inconvenience but I'm also pretty sure I didn't have any other fines (at the time)...

It did say I'd have to go so it wasn't a complete suprise, just seem a bit overkill ... I suppose I could have paid it off at an IF (I actually went to a station with an IF right after), but I forgot...

How is it worrying? This is FDev at thier finest SOP.

You can't shoot back while being fired upon without provocation, and even AFTER paying a fine you STILL go to jail.

Lovely.

not.

Who wants to start a sweepstakes how long it''ll take FDev to fix both of these?

I'll put £10 on 2 years.

Was it actually a fine? Because a similar thing happened to me, however, I actually ALSO had a bounty, and clicked the "Turn yourself in" button, when thinking I was paying the fine.

It's kind of badly designed to place the turn yourself in button as the first thing to press, and on top, to have no "Are you sure" prompt when you click it.

But I'm 90% sure that's what happened.

Otherwise yeah, it's a bug, as fines don't give you a turn yourself in option to click. Only bounties.

(And somehow a lot of people on these forums say fine, when they mean bounty. Very different things)

This is a really dumb mechanic .. minor infractions really shouldn't interrupt your game play, send you 100 LYs away (to a system where you can't buy fuel scoops), and waste everyone's time in your wing while they wait for you. I was in a 14LY range figher when I got sent away after landing to pay a minor fine.

Minor infractions don't send you 100lys away. Minor infractions get you a fine which can be paid off without being sent to a penal ship. In order to get bountied you either need to have a collision in a station that causes destruction or open fire on another ship.

Can confirm, I got deported over a whopping 100Cr Fine (caused by my NPC) as well about a month ago.

Apparently "Working as intended". The "C&P System" in all its glory xD
  • 100Cr sends you to a Prison Colony
  • 250 Million Bounty? Just ignore it, hardcore Criminals obviously don't dock and press that "I'll pay it" Button.

Something like "too big to fail" I presume, everything is upside down in the lawless ELITE Galaxy. Small fish are punished to the max. extent, the big fish just smile and carry on.

Maybe the game's servers are now linked with government authority databases across the world, and they check your real life criminal record, then send you to a Penal System in the game if you have any recent offences?

I had a fatal collision in a station, I got destroyed whilst motionless in an unshielded <7 ly racing viper 3 by a T9, I had to rebuy it and then got sent to a penal colony, which seemed harsh.
