Odd scanner fail in BLEAE THUA QM-C B55-1

Running a long passenger trip at the weekend and the practiced sequence of jump, fuel scoop, honk was briefly interrupted by a Scanner Malfunction message, nothing appeared out of the ordinary, messed about a bit re-scanned and everything worked.

I'd have left it there but on the way back from the mission, same thing in the same spot.

Now I can't swear it was the same system, I suspect it wasn't as I eventually got some new scan data, but it was a 3500LY trip and the scanner only failed in the same BLEAE THUA area.

Never seen this particular malfunction message before, wondered if it was a known module failure and I've just been lucky not to see it before, or if there's a mysterious thing being all mysterious in the area?

Interesting. I've never seen that message before myself.
Did you by chance detail scan any of the system objects?

Scanned a couple of the nearest objects to the main star and nothing odd appeared. Only have the Advanced Discovery scanner in the passenger ship.

The scan progress appeared normal, but there was no big blue text message about discoveries or the message advising no new data. Then a big blue message advising a Scanner Malfunction. Happened a couple of times then cleared and scans started working. All worked fine for the rest of the journey. Module status was all pretty good, not 100% as I'd had one distracted jump where I got too close to a star.

Seemed odd so figured I'd post here and see if it's a known thing, even wondered if cloaking devices that disrupt scanners could be being tested in the area as a mysterious thing. Probably over-thinking but stranger things happen in space :)

that could be interesting - you might have found something, i'd dig around a little, see if you can find anything

might be nothing, best have a good look just in case

Certainly worth reporting in this forum, it will be interesting to see if some other long distance explorers have experienced this. I never have, even with the ship damaged after a trip to/from Colonia.

It's Raxxla. It cannot be scanned at this time. Now that you've found it, feel free to tell everyone where it is so they can come and not be able to scan it either. Or land there. Or do anything, except get scan failures.

I am only 1000ly from there, on way back from a long range tourist trip myself. Might check it out. Should only add a couple of hundred ly to my trip & is something to relieve the boredom.

Was the message along the lines of 'data corrupted, please try again'?
I have had that message when my connection to the server is acting up. It is often accompanied by a delay in the response to the advanced discovery scanner; sometimes my connection goes completely and I get a disconnection error soon after, other times the connection clears up or remains temperamental until I give it a break.
.
If the message was actually 'Scanner Malfunction', then I don't remember seeing that before (without having something like an Unknown Artifact in my hold or having taken module damage, anyway). Either way, good call to make a note of the system and report it here!

Well, I did my fly by. For any who are interested full exploration data is now available for purchase and perusal at your leisure from Universal Cartographics via the galaxy map interface of your on-board Navigation computer.

Preliminary findings: CMDR Adepemek's disco is on the fritz.

Fly safe.

You probably got the message you see when the server is too slow to respond. Usually happens when servers are dying. You can forecast it when it starts taking longer to make jumps, enter/exit SC and the delay between scan completing and the system details turning up starts to increase.

Cheers all, I didn't take a screenshot of the message and it appeared quick, it could have been Data Corrupted but for some reason I still have Scanner Malfunction in my head.

The connection thing makes sense, didn't get any disconnects but I was on a long time to get the trip finished and handed in before the weekend was done. Odd how it happened around the same area for the outward and return journey, don't tend to do lots of long distance trips so not certain what to expect.

Doubt it's module health, at the time even at the end of the trip everything was pretty much above 95%, only damage was due to a couple of misjudged, too close fuel scoop and one distracted by something fly into the star moment.

Just paid the system a quick visit...nothing special, scanners worked 100%.
Skimmed a few planets, and left.

Probably a network issue, indeed.
