Odd Steam/ED update issue

Ok, my internet is toooooooooo slow to update ED on both my PC and laptop. So I updated one, and then copied the C:/steam/steamapps/common/Elite Dangerous folder from my PC, to my laptop, in the same folder.

When I launched steam on my laptop, it decided to just try and update the 13 GB download anyway.
So I stopped it, deleted everything in the download folder, and launched again.
Same thing, it tried to re-download it.
So this time, I copied the contents of the ED folder, in to the download folder for ED.

Launched steam again.

Still trying to download 13GB.

This usually works a treat. So I don't get why this isn't working at all.

Help!

We dont take kindly to "Steam" users around these here parts.....just kidding. There is a file that you have to delete to stop it from downloading everything again. I forget what the file is and where it is located but thats the problem.

Lol

To be honest, I only still use steam because:
A) I sold all my hard copies before I moved in to a small flat.
B) Tesco sells steam wallet cards. I work there, so I get 10% off everything. Lol

I'll try some more googlings.

I just validated he game files, which were all copies from my PC, which was fully up to date.
Yet it said 12000~ files failed to validate.
So it's now trying to update 13Gb.... Again. Lol
Usually it only needs to update a few MB of files.

I just copied all my game folders from Steam/Origin/ect over to my external HD last week and had to google this issue. I download from one PC then copy everything over to my other PCs. If you make me google it for you I will charge you a fee. :p

Meh.

Steam just deleted half my ED installation when I re-validated it again. Lol

Dammit.

Guess I won't be playing ED at work today. :p

And that 5m CR mission is gonna fail on about 2 hours. :(

Damn you steam!

Annnnnd now it wants to download 17gb.... -_-

Is there a way to stop ED 32 bit being downloaded?
It's huge, but I never use it.

Thats weird are you sure it deleted it? The original files should be there still even after validating. Steam just makes it look like its deleted I believe. Let me check my browser history for the page you need to find out how to do it properly.

Actually I used my tablet so I cant paste the link here, but google how do i move steam games to a new computer without re-downloading them. And the site with the best solution is on the gaming.stackexchange.com choose that one. Like I said you should still have all the files in the folder. So try that.

Yup, they're gone!

Lol

I've never had this issue before, in any other game, or previous version of ED.

I've always downloaded games on my PC, then copied them via USB or network to my laptop.
Then simply validated the files and away I went.
I'll just have to leave my laptop running over night/the next day/week/year to do the update. Lol

It's only really an issue because my home internet is really really slow now.
I used to have fibre until I moved. Now I feel like I'm better off using carrier pigeons. Lol

Wow I didnt realize that validating can delete existing files. Well I am very careful with the validation anyway because it usually takes awhile to finish. I just hope that you did not move to an area where they eat pigeons.... lol

Well, my cat may eat the pigeons. :D

I didn't realise that if a file failed validation, it was deleted.
First time ever for me.

I don't even know how it failed. I copied it directly from my PC this morning, after yesterday's update.

Shoulda just updated my laptop weeks ago while I was on a break playing 7 Days To Die. Lol

I usually copy everything over to my other PCs once a month. This issue has to do with the installation file(s) Steam will keep trying to update the game until you have deleted certain installation files. Because I do not copy game folders over very often, I have not committed the process to memory.
