Inara got all that already for you.

For example, filter on "Data". All the grey stuff is currently(!) without use (i.e. not needed for either mods or engineer unlocks).

And even better yet of course, if you create an account and import your profile data (either through your Frontier credentials or a manual import of your journal files), you can easily keep track of your inventory (and a lot of other things). You can also use one of the many tools that uses the Inara API (like ED Market Connector) to update everything in near real-time.

I like how the goods list is so much more concise than the data list, when goods are easier to grab in bulk and target the right kinds of settlements for multiple drops in a single visit, sometimes even a single locker, while data has an absolutely gigantic list of things that clog up the mission rewards and yet most are only used for a single obscure modification you probably don't even want to apply very often, may only have a chance of spawning in a single data port type that might not even be present at whatever settlement you're visiting, and can't be targeted in bulk for mission rewards because you're buried in missions offering air quality reports instead.

Oh wait, did I say I like that? I hate that.

I have a last remaining shimmering of hope that almost every piece of material/data does have a purpose (just like there are no redundancies in Horizons engineering) and that everything is tradable. Who knows, maybe in a few years or so we'll actually have a use for all those building, vehicle and ship schematics.

I'm on a base looting. I get a data panel, I'm in vr I hit a key and bam up comes that list translucent so l can see if the mats listed are good or not...sometimes I'm not sure cos I'm old hehe
Least that's how I'd want it to be, but for now l take the hmd off and click the desktop list.. grrr

First, apologies.

I am going to necro this and I swore to myself I'd never do sych a thing but I have a hankering and a need to know...

I have nearly the maximum data allowance in my storage so I really need to get rid of some. The question is, does anyone know if there is something coming that requires the following? I suspect the answer is "how long is a piece of string?" but I'm hoping those with bigger brains may know.

I've taken this data from Inara, sorted on "Used" to get all the stuff with (curently) zero:

If nothing comes of this post - and, again, I apologise for necroing - I plan to sell off all of the above.

Cheers.

Even if they have an intended future purpose, there has been no communication about that whatsoever. I had to get rid of most of them as well, I've only kept some of the more rare data (at least in my experience) like AX Combat Logs and Xeno-Defence Protocols with the probably futile hope that they might come in handy one day.

I just take everything and sell irrelevant stock and data to the bartender, its not decent money but it more than pays for the fuel im using while raiding settlements and stealing everything that is not nailed down.
