Newcomer / Intro Odyssee and Steam

Do I have to use Steam to upgrade to Odyssey? I hate Steam and see no reason for it, it is just another layer to play a game. If I can't upgrade without Steam I will abandon Elite Dangerous and move on to something else.

You should be able to ignore Steam and order directly from Frontier. I know I will - I don't have a Steam accont and don't want one.
