Odyssey Alpha Phase 2 update process crashing: Unhandled exception "being used by other process"

During the update process, it does the syncing for a while, after which it crashes and leaves this error (even when no other apps should be open and even after fresh computer restart) After shutting the window (seen in the attachment) the game cannot be shut down. In fact I have to kill the steam process from task manager.

PS: I also verified integrity of files and that didn't help either.

Thanks Meta. I got it to work now.
I did 2 things: Followed these instructions about permissions in windows. Also added the elite dangerous steam folder into my anti-virus exceptions list.

Not sure which of these did the trick, but at least it's up and running now!
