Odyssey blurry UI and graphics since its release

Hey all, since Odyssey release a friend of mine has had an issue with slightly blurry UI and graphics while playing Odyssey in 1080p. These issues do not occur in Horizons, and still continue even after the latest update.

Below is screenshots he took:

Out of curiosity, I decided to take similar screenshots, but since I play in 4k resolution I first set my resolution settings to 1080p to test. Obviously this is a weird scenario, since I'm still running the game in 4k, but the issue is still very present between Horizons and Odyssey when the game is set at 1080p on a 4k screen

So far we've tried the following things...
  • Deleted NV_Cache (Nvidia's shader cache)
  • Deleted Graphics options file to force it to make a new one
  • Tried the new supersampling options and really crank up supersampling in general in Odyssey
  • Updated Nvidia Graphics Driver
...But still have had no luck.

I saw threads about this after release with no solutions, so it would be good to know if others are still having this issue or if anyone has found some method to resolve the issue.

Edit:
Note that our hardware setups are very different from one another.

His setup uses:
RTX 2060 with AMD Ryzen 7 3700X

My setup uses:
RTX 3080 with Intel i7-7700k

I'm just going to go out on a limb here, but since they introduced AMD FSR it's switched on by default for the higher graphics presets. Try setting the preset to Low since FSR is disabled there.

Problem's been around since Odyssey release, I didn't think AMD FSR implementation was in just then. Either way I tried to set the preset to Low but the blurriness is still just as clear at 1080p in Odyssey :(

What kind of hardware? Do you happen to have similar setups, bar the monitor resolution?

Good question, I'll add this to the top as well. Our setups are very different between each other: I have an RTX 3080 with an Intel i7-7700k while his uses an RTX 2060, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X. Both of us have 16GB memory, but it's hard for me to believe it's a memory size or speed issue.

I find that bloom in odyssey causes a lot of blurriness as you describe. I've turned it off since i find it really annoying.

Agreed, but at least in this case bloom isn't the issue- it was one of my first thoughts too but my friend tried disabling it too with no avail, and I play with bloom always disabled.

I'm having the same problem since release. GTX 1650 @ 1080p. It's only the ship cockpit that looks like this. The SRV and helmet HUD are perfectly sharp.

@Gamepro03 @Pigletslastand @Astrometer Turning off the AMD FSR back to "normal" upscaling, rather than lowering it, will restore text clarity. The text is blurrrrrrrred because of the the lower resolution, and FSR is possibly applying AA to it as well. 👁 Obviously, FPS will revert to normal as well if you do this. 😥

Eyesight or frame rates... tough call. I went for eyesight btw.

I have tried this and it didn't do anything on it's own. I also had to change the anti-aliasing setting. I found MLAAX4 to be the only one that gets rid of the jagged lines without completely blurring all the text. Will try this for a while.

No luck here with that one either. We did intentionally sacrifice our framerate with normal/max quality upscaling (without using AMD options as well) to get as sharp of a UI as possible in Odyssey at 1080p resolution (while clearly being much less sharp than Horizons)

Both, I retract my confidence that this would restore it then. I am team green for gpu, and reverting (after it was forced through in the update!) to normal upscaling at x1.0 supersampling after deleting the gfx options file instantly dissolved my new cataracts. For me, SMAA is the only efficient (not perfect at all) team green AA choice for EDO given MLAA was originally a team red solution. You don't have NCP forcing the AA pass do you?

Note that on my 4k resolution monitor, when the game is set to 1080p I've been able to solve the blurry UI by setting "Normal" upscaling with "2.0" superscaling. This made the UI just as crisp for me as Horizons in 1080p or Odyssey in 4k res. This did NOT work for my friend, who is playing on a 1080p monitor- setting 2.0x upscaling helped noticeably, but the UI is still not as perfect as playing in Horizons, and setting 2.0x also caused severe FPS loss while playing.

Antialias is prone to blur stuff. You get the crispest contours without AA at the cost of jagged lines.
