Apparently, there are rumours that with renewed interest Fdev will package an odyssey update for PS5, but that will take a lot of time and there's still internal struggle at Fdev it seems? I have no idea where this rumour started though or if there’s any substance in it whatsoever. Anyone else heard anything along those lines?

As much as many commanders (myself included) would love that to be true, its sounds like nonesense.
One of the reasons FDEV binned off consoles in the first place was the man power required to keep 3 different code bases running developed and up to date, it wasn't the only reason but it will have been a major factor.
If they launched a PS5 version, sure graphically it could handle it no problem at all, but then FDEV would be maintaining the the PC version, Legacy versions for both XBOX and PS4 and then PS5 on top of that. I dont think the console game sales would justify the man power required.
They need to leave PS4/XBOX behind at this point. There's already been other games that are next gen only. They could have pc base and then cross gen with new consoles with the same base code.

Indeed it ridiculous that Frontier dropped Elite on consoles they way they did, basically just, "leaving the lights on", not even giving us a bug fix patch since the "legacy "/live split! .
(Do they even perform maintenance on the "legacy" servers anymore?! .)
I don't think that most of us would have cared too much if, Odyssey and 4.0 "only" came out on the "next gen" consoles, even if we got delayed expansions like The Elder Scrolls Online and Stellaris etc and were only sharing a BGS across PS5 and Series X...
(While PS4, Xbox One and lower powered PCs became "legacy" as they did, although as said, even then, you'd expect SOME new content in the "legacy" versions!.)
Meanwhile it's so strange that Frontier as said dropped Elite on consoles as they did, when they have several other games on the "next gen" consoles, including several running on the same engine as Elite! - They "just" don't have Elite on "next gen", when we're all here with our wallets open! ...
While Indeed they could and should still release the "live" game on "next gen" ...
Hopefully they have a nice Christmas break and announce that Elite is coming out for PS5 and Series X by next Summer (and indeed hopefully sooner than that!) .

.It's not the same engine. It's like saying unreal 2 is the same engine as unreal 5. Did you notice that the new games have working AA?
