[Odyssey] Introducing the Thumper mining limpet

With odyssey giving us on-foot exploration
I'd like to suggest a new way of surface mining with the Thumper

Admittedly this is taking a concept from a retired shut down game Firefall
Consider this: Being able to equip your ship with a type of limpet or drone that can be called down from orbit to drop on resource nodes scouted while on foot.
The idea is that while you are exploring on foot while on a planet you have the chance to find resource nodes that require larger mining equipment to extract.
With the Thumper you can equip one on your ship and call it down to extract these resources for you and fill up a limpet with them before sending it back to your ship.

you might have to defend the mining limpet from pirates, or on inhabited worlds, local wildlife.

not sure I understand, what would this offer over being able to recall a ship and use that?
there currently isnt a mechanic in the game to allow ships to do surface mining, the SRV relies on outcrops and rocks already being on the surface.
This would add a mechanic of actively going out and searching for sub-surface nodes to deploy a mining drop pod on for extraction.

Plus on high gravity worlds it wouldnt really be practical to use the ships as a mining apparatus with the way mining hardpoints work, the reverse thrusters dont have enough power to keep most vessels in the air on high gravity worlds.

Nice ideas. As of yet FD haven't mentioned anything about mining with Odyssey so it would seem pretty slim something like this would make an appearance (on launch). I have no objections to it happening, just not sure that it will.

that is a completely realistic expectation with the history of how frontier has handled updates in the past
But one can dream.
