Odyssey is getting better no doubt, but some observations side to side with Horizon.

Some easy quickie comparison to check what improved and whats missing.

Odyssey picture was taken using Ultra as graphics options to get the most of the new graphics settings. Horizon just regular custom preset.

There are some things missing still in Odyssey, like the Gutamaya signature reflection on the carbon fiber parts, also neon lights outside the ship are missing too. Lets not talk about the interior cockpit being like a stadium when we talk about lights.

Textures and models in Odyssey were revamped as you can see and its greatly appreciated. Also lighting changed a lot, shadows and reflections. We can see an improvement in lights more realistic.

But...
The light at the top of the hangar in Horizon went missing for example.
Something terrible awful is the heat exaust in the tip of the wing. It doesnt irradiate heat, no glow, its just a lava paint. Looks like a 90's game, more like DOOM(TM).
The mirror logo in the side of the wing is missing too. No neon lighting in the blue lines of the ship, this was fixed in cockpit interiors but not in the outside of the ship.
And the way the lights and shadows cast over the ship makes the arena paint look like dark brown instead of the military sand color.

I see an overall high contrast that makes Odyssey have a clear image. But Horizon was great at the ambient light being integrated with the atmosphere and the environment like cinematic style in a movie set.

I think these things can be easy fixed in order to make the game more appealing eye candy as Horizon was at first. If we manage to have an experience more similar to the good ol' Horizon we can get back to our ships really fast and continue doing the space missions as we did in the past and enjoying the game. And start testing the ground missions and so but more relaxed until the final version of Odyssey get polished.

Then the great bugs can wait, they are complex and need time in order to solve.

Everyone invited to chat about it in a constructive way.

Reflections in ship materials are still missing or not? And paint jobs? What about heat effect? It's just me and my PC or are still missing?

I played a lot lately, and I'm very glad with fps improvements using AMD technology. Also planets and atmospheres when ground are very good indeed. Also red sunsets are breathtaking.

Be nice guys, just chatting, no discussions here.

You have a lot of valid points. Lighting improved a lot, I think VR community is still having problems. Shadows, reflections and stuff that have anything to do with graphics must fall under performance issues, they just can't improve those because game would become unplayable with drastic FPS drop. All details to ships and stations I'm sure will be added as game moves forward.
You are right about Horizon, I said it many times, all they had to do is add On Foot to Horizon. Graphics are great, everything works as intended and most important, no performance problems. Odyssey is a big mess, graphic engine they picked is BAD, to be honest, I don't think they will ever make it to work to be even close in performance as Horizons.
I disagree with you on bugs can wait. Bugs prevent people from completing their missions and other gameplay related stuff, graphical details can be added at anytime. So, performance, bug and then details.

I like the contrasty look of the ship in the EDO screenie, but the EDH screenie looks better overall.

...all they had to do is add On Foot to Horizon.

If only code worked that way. What is likely is FD did not build ED in a manner that would allow simply adding FPS on, so they had no choice but to significantly rework things.

If only it was that easy, bug in missions can affects performance, failing to load details and yet the game keep trying to retrieve them can affect performance.

Your probably right about they couldn't use Horizons graphic engine for on foot play but they should have done better job picking up new one. Maybe company that sold them this new engine had a very good sales person ;)

In the last patch I found almost no game breaking show stopper bugs. I'm pretty happy with it.
I found pretty weird that the on foot hud has better resolution than the ship cockpit hud.

I will I promise. But let me know if I'm wrong, some effects are still missing?

Well just out of the top of my head, it's late and I'm going to bed:

Ship Shadows are missing the landing gear and hardpoint / utilities shadows
Glass translucent effect is missing in the canopies / bridges
Shield effect color when hit / hitting are missing (it's all blue now, no more purple for biwave / green for prismatic)
NPC ships mining laser are very dim (haven't mined yet, so can't tell how they look from the piloting chair now)

For the rest with latest update EDO got much better, but there is still quite a lot of work to do for FD

I have no doubt that on-foot gameplay could be done in horizons. I think the main issue with horizons was that they had pushed the planet tech as far as it could go and wasn't future proof. The new version is much more future proof from what I can tell.

I understand future proof but I think they picked wrong engine to do that.

Yep but it is not fair to choose only the picture that aligns with you view...

Dude, I'm just talking about what matters most to me, it's my view, fair or not, there is no bad intentions.
So no discussions, just chill.

The effects and eye candy are very important to me, also performance. More than VR or 4k resolution.
So I made this post to know if anyone wanna share with me, how the game looks in other computers rather than mine only.
