Odyssey killed VR

Elite Dangerous has been the pinnacle of Virtual Reality experiences since it's inception, now, thanks to Odyssey, it's the worst experience & virtually unplayable in VR. What happened & are there plans to fix this?

What was once a smooth & wholly enjoyable experience is now pixelation, stutters, scratchy audio & crashes since I bought the Odyssey DLC which is required for exobiology & the only aspect I have interest in.

Is this being worked on or has the Frontier team given up on VR & this game being the best experience available in the VR market?

I just don't understand how 10+ years of development has actually made the experience unplayable.

No plans. VR is not under development

Enough people playing in VR without issues. Perhaps people here can help resolve your problems

It's known as lowest MVP (💩) to maximum ROI (💵). Been going in every single industry for decades now. So much for human technology and advancement. 🙄 I stopped hoping a long time ago..

My VR is still working fine BTW. Check your settings.

GTX1080Ti +i7-6700K +32GB +VivePro1(SteamVR 100%). Game is gorgeous on Ultra +SMAA x1.0 +AMD CAS Lvl 1. Ambient Occlusion is nowhere so you can turn that off. I drop Bloom also to reduce light scatter in the HMD. Whatever you do, DO NOT USE FSR! It is garbage.

I get 90-120 FPS in Space and 50-ish in the Stations. Turn down your monitor resolution so it's =/< than your VR.

As for the crap audio, others have reported the same since the last update. Stuttering is happening to everyone since colonization. Have fun.

I have Odyssey and play exclusively in VR .... I don't experience any of the things you are referring too.

What's your setup?

I'm running an Intel i7 12700k, RTX 4090 & the Quest 3 with Steam link. Everything was running near perfectly with maybe a random stutter until I got the Odyssey DLC. From then on, it's pixelation, unplayable frame drops, random crashes & constant scratchy audio with mere moments in between of playable quality. I've tried changing the VR quality all the way down & there's no change other than ugly video during the brief moments when the game plays okay. I've turned the FSR off & followed other suggestions, but nothing I've done has helped,

You can try to clear the graphicsconfigoverride file

Shut down the game. Navigate to ... Games\Frontier\EDLaunch\Products\elite-dangerous-64 and delete the file. You might want to delete the graphicsconfiguration.xml file too

Then start the game again

ps. The stuttering is like 5 minutes past the hour. Check the in-game clock

..RTX 4090

Unless you have a crap 50XX series, you shouldn't be running the latest Nvidia drivers. 40XX and earlier users are recommended to downgrade to v.566.36, because of stability issues.

566.36 was the last version before 50XX support was added. Might even fix your
audio if you are using the DisplayPort for sound. Not familiar with the Quest, just make sure you are running full resolution in all of its software.

I once moved my Vive resolution slider by accident and took forever to figure it out why it looked like crap. o7
