Odyssey: Loading time to disembark to planetside

Nothing is running in the background, just Steam. BTW I used its statistics overlay which says that VRAM is used up to 95%. Maybe I should try to increase the VRAM to 8 GB 🧐? But then only 8 GB regular RAM will remain.

Yeah, there's your issue all right, didn't realise you were so limited in VRAM, 8Gb is fine to run the game in, but you MUST have as much VRAM as you can spare, if you are under 8Gb that's a big problem.

Ok & first and foremost thank you very much for the concise inputs. Just increased the VRAM to 8 GB and lowered the in game settings (to "low" preset, GPU and CPU load totally under control with that, VRAM usage < 70%. FPS: constant at 60. Disembark time: constant at 30 seconds🥳 Well, I know when I am out of my wits. And before I forget: merry xmas ;)!

PS the next step would perhaps be to fiddle with my router settings, DNS, ping around etc.; would have done that at the age of 20, now not any more 😜

ya have a merry one 30secs is hardly unplayable i would try afterburner 50mhz downclock for any cause or effect it may just skip the specific Disembark blackscreen tdr

That would be totally ok for me, not great but ok. I have full 30 seconds every time, which is really making the game near to unplayable for exobiology.

I never had such a strange tech problem in my gaming history, where everything runs at high settings and FPS is good, but only one damn loading screen keeps getting in between, disregarding of how low I go with the other game settings.🤔
Yeah given you've now tried a load of sensible things which have affected frame rate and not affected this at all, I think there's two conclusions:
1. Fiddling with the rendering engine settings is not going to fix it :-(
2. It's something very weird and likely one defect stacked on top of another one

Could you try launching Horizons instead of Odyssey (make sure you're not in an Odyssey-only settlement :) ) and using the SRV instead? At least we'll know if it's Odyssey-specific then...

@STRONTIUM DOG All your nVidia suggestions are good but OP has AMD!

Ok, I just did that (y). Aaand guess what ;) .. the exact 30 seconds to deploy the SRV! VRAM and RAM usage each sitting at comfortbale 70% during that, while I'm quietly watching the black loading screen 🥳. For a change, this time of course with the mechanic SRV deploy sounds instead of the footsteps

Haha, this is so weird. I have absolutely no idea what the game might be doing on the Legion device while I am experiencing this behaviour. Would be very nice to meet other Legion Go owners here on the forums, and ask them if they observe it too.

I can pretty much rule out Internet connection issues, as it is ONLY when leaving my ship. All other instance switches (leaving hyperspace, even disembarking on foot in my fleet carrier) are working fast (the usual 3-5 seconds).

Ok, issue resolved for me in the meantime: No Man‘s Sky embarking / disembarking time is 3 seconds 😅And atmospheric planets, base building, underwater gameplay, extensive plant scanning and animals are included. Well, maybe Elite Dangerous Space „Sim“ parts and NMS planetsides just make up for a good gaming combination 😉

BTW >50% discount ATM in Steam Spring Sale

Same issue, takes 30 secs to embark, or disembark .. I'm using EDcopilot, but no overlay.

Just tested myself, populated system, atmospheric planet, 2 bio, 2 geo, 3 human settlements, exactly the same as before, 10 seconds from the time I hit the disembark button to the time I was ready to roll. Using EDDiscovery and EO, so don't know what's going on with you guys but it's the exact same as before colonisation for me.

I think it is hardware dependent to a certain degree, in my case lack of VRAM on the LegionGo plays a role. As a test, I renewed my paid GeforceNow subscription, and disembarking there takes 5 seconds instead of 30 (RTX 3060 rig).

on an GF RTX 3080 with 12Gb VRAM myself

Right, I'm on a 1060 with 6gb and I don't have a problem with disembark times. Whatever the underlying cause is, it's not directly caused by "ancient GPU" because I have an ancient GPU and it's fine.

I only have 16GB of system RAM and it does sometimes page when I'm playing but even when that's happening I still don't have long disembark times. Something more subtle is going on here which is causing long disembark for some combination of conditions...

At least you actually have dedicated VRAM, and the 16 gb regular RAM on top.. for me on the LeGo its 16 gb in total, with 6 gb shared VRAM. I am really wondering what the game is actually doing while the screen is black and you hear the footsteps, and if we could somehow tweak it. Most probably, we will never know 🤔.
