Odyssey Map - Icons, interface, buttons oh my ! lions, tigers and bears

Finding the new interface, especially the galaxy map completely confusing

I clicked on realistic mode with the galaxy map - how on earth do I turn it off ? ? ?
edit: ive figured you have to click map mode which i thought didnt work but then also click aside one of the new icons that appear

Also why isn't there (or is there??) a ingame key guide to all the symbols displayed on the map, I have no idea what the symbols mean?

I recieved a invitation to upgrade my weapon systems from Tod McQuinn, im told its been marked on my map - im clueless, dont see any marker telling me where it is ?

Agreed.
I don't get why the working interface had to be replaced with unfathomable icons scattered all around the screen.

it's bloody terrible, and it was bad before.
how do i tell which planets are landable and have a tenuous atmosphere? not explained anywhere.

I have to join in on this one. The map is confusing and loads of buttons that open up panels just make the whole thing hard to use. Less is more. What FDev failed to do is to streamline the UI instead of adding even more buttons and modes to it.
Then again, the same is true for the weapons/analysis modes and how confusing and limited firegroups still are. It's 2021 and we still can't more than two triggers.

Like in horizons the Semi blue circle means you can land on it, the atmospheric planets are surrounded by a blue cloud, if both present they are atmospheric landable planets.

From my understanding, the left side of the map is Navigation-related, the Right Info related.

Click on a planet
Click on the third Icon on the Right to reveal info about the planet, such as gravity, minerals content and others.

The problem is that we should not "Grind" to understand things, should be more obvious. I appreciate the Search function for the markers but I don't like the new map either.

agreed, the grind to understand is such a barrier to entry. I did eventually work it out with the system map, but such changes would have been best explained in the tutorial.
