As someone who actually enjoys material farming to fund my engineering habit, i hope this may help others who dont!
There are many posts about how hard this is, it really isnt, (well compared to getting an Epic in Everquest!
This is my system, i have found this the easiest way.
Once you have a full load of these materials even fully engineering a couple of ships will only take an evening or so (depending on your time) to completely restock.
Material Trading
Material traders are going to be your friends for the next few hours.
Closest traders to SOL are:
ENCODED: Magnus Gateway – EZ AQUARII
MANUFACTURED: Patterson Enterprise – SIRIUS
RAW: Broglie Terminal – 61 CYGNI
(all have large pads)
Ok lets start - pick a small/medium ship with 1 SRV and a decent jump range (dont worry your only in the Bubble at this point)
First you need to visit each of the traders
ENCODED

Trade out using the Encryption Files row and Modified Embedded Firmware if needed.
This involves using the higher value materials, those on the far right of the screen (G5) to obtain more of the lower value grades.
If you are short of any G5 materials use Adaptive Encrypted Captures and Modified Embedded Firmware to fill them as much as you can - these two are the easiest to obtain.
Note: try to keep the MEF in multiples of 5 (I will explain later).
MANUFACTURED

Trade out each row using the G5 in each section if lots needed, otherwise use Imperial Shielding, Core Dynamic Composites, Exquisite focus Crystals and Biotech conductors
(these are the easiest to obtain).
RAW

Trade out using the G4 (yes only 4 atm) in each section trying to leave only Polonium, Ruthenium and Tellurium (if needed) to restock.
Your now going to take your small/medium ship out to a crash site, Jameson Crash site - an historical monument so show a little respect out here.
Its located on Planet 1B of the HIP 12099 System, land next to the crashed Cobra and use your SRV (Scarab) to scan the 4 data points.
There's a ton of vids on the Interweb about this so im not going to ruin your voyage of discovery.

Your aim here is to fill up those Adapative Encryptors Capture (Grade 5).
Other stuff from here:
Atypical Encryption Archives (Grade 4)
Modified Consumer Firmware (Grade 2)
Cracked Industrial Firmware (Grade 3)
If you decided to use Modified Embedded Firmware (Encoded), Exquisite Focus Crystals and Biotech Conductors (Manufactured) you now have 2 options:
1) These G5s are available as mission rewards for both Foot and Ship missions - you will need to do a lot of running around for this method
2) Robigo Mines passenger runs (again there are vids out there) - for this you need a purpose built Python to ferry passengers to a point of interest in Sothis and back.
Robby (Robigo Mines Outpost in the Robigo System)
The POI in Sothis is Sirius Atmospherics - target the beacon with T and then scan - [Robby is 495.55LY from Shinrarta dezhra as a guide]
Jump sequence is - Robigo to Wredguia TH-U = 34.5LY Wredguia to Sothis = 25.6LY (with the ship build below)
Suggested ship build with shields (when you get bored and ram that beacon)
You will get the occasional interdiction as your carrying illegal passengers, DONT submit, pop a heat sink and evade or you will fail the missions.
Dont be a muppet - fit an ADC it actually saves time, ive done nearly 9000 missions here and only ejected 9 VIPs (dont ask!)
My ship:
Gothica Star Tours
Material rewards are given in multiples of 5 (see i said we would get there!)
This is by far the best way to get G5s so well worth building a ship to do the passenger missions and leave it docked at Hauser's Reach (large pads) in the same system
You should now have Encoded done from either Jameson Crash or Robby (or both)
Time for Manufactured
You can get G5 Exquisite Focus Crystals from Robby but if passenger runs isnt for you then your next step is High Grade Emmisions
You will need a ship with a cargo rack (the bigger the better) and collection limpets (normal scoop will do but im lazy).
Head to KWATSU for Imperial Shielding, scan the Nav beacon and look for HGE's, once you super cruise to the location and drop out you should see the materials in front of you amongst the wreckage of destroyed ships.
These can be selected in the Contacts section of the Navigation panel.
If you selected an HGE with 10+ minuites remaining im not gonna lie, relogging to desktop and back in is the easiest way.
Next jump to Meeneratii, Ki Laufey or HIP 41984 for CDCs
If there are no HGE's in these systems you can find them using the following system requirements:
Core Dynamics Composites and Proprietary Composites – Federation, high population, state none / Election
Military Grade Alloys – Any system, high population, state war/civil war.
Imperial Shielding - Empire, high pop, state none/election.
Proto Heat Radiators – Independant, high pop, state boom/expansion
Pharmaceutical Isolators – Any system, any population, state outbreak (good luck with this one!!!)
Improvised Components - Independant, any population, state civil unrest.
Proto Radiolic Alloys – Independant or Alliance,High Tech, 1mil + population, state boom
Well done, still awake?
And now for thereal killer gentle stroll into the Black.
You will need a ship with a decent jump range (your going 1600LYs out) and 2 SRVs, a small ship is best.
Keelback Materials Grabber
Head for HIP 36601 (be carefull of route mapping as it may take you through Thargoid systems atm).
The following materials are available from Crystal Shard sites on the planet surface:
HIP 36601 - C 1 a - Polonium
HIP 36601 - C 1 d - Ruthenium
HIP 36601 - C 3 b - Tellurium
HIP 36601 - C 5 a - Technetium
Look for hilly areas and use night vision to make it easier, if you pick a decent set of trees you will not need to relog.
There are normally Fleet Carriers out there if you need to restock but 2 SRVs can completely refill all G4s as long as your not trying to annihilate the entire planets life forms.
You can also use on foot weapons to dislodge the goodies from the trees, slow but fun.
Be warned the planets are around 150K LS from the main star and if you need a materials trader, forget it!
Hope this helps, it is a grind to start with to fill all those bins, but once its done as i said in the opening section restocking takes a few hours.
I cant stress enough how much building that passenger Python for Robby will change your life, its also a great source of credits (each run can make 25mil if you just pick credit missions).
Cheers and O7
