Odyssey (mis)adventures

I had a somewhat random misadventure today while visiting a nice location that @jafergon had highlighted in the-great-big-odyssey-screenshots-thread. Anyway, I hit record, one thing led to another and I ended up producing a short video about it. Since this is something I'm known to do occasionally, this time I thought I'd create a whole new forum thread for what I hope will be an occasional series of such adventures.

Presenting: Odyssey (mis)adventures episode 01 : "2 SRV's 1 Ship"

It all starts when I'm exploring some of the terrain surrounding Parise Vision on Athena AB 3 a and end up perched on the edge of this volcano overlooking the port.

I get out to take a screenshot and it's while I'm doing the classic "back a bit ... back a bit more" that I fall into the volcano. When I discover it's too steep to climb out I recall may ship only to hit the next problem.

The ship hovers above me but can't (or won't!) descend into the mouth of the volcano.

Eventually I manage to scramble out. In the next two shots you can see (if you look closely) me, my SRV and my ship still hovering there.

As I'm trying to pick my way up the ridge and back to my SRV I fall back in again and discover something!

A bit like it can sometimes do with the SRV the ship is providing boarding facility even when it's a considerable height above the ground!

Having reboarded the ship I fly back to Parise Vision and, because it's looking absolutely glorious, take a few more screenshots.

It's roughly at this point that I remember my abandoned SRV, have an idea for a (mis)adventure and hit record.

Further (mis)adventures ..

Great story!
I had to push my own SRVs too when I discovered that disembarking from them at a thargoid structure is questionable, and one of my SRVs got stuck inside the structure's tunnels while I was chilling inside the planet, see image attached.
These things really do need a winch! looks at Vodel/Core Dynamics

Beam me up, Scotty!

One thing you can do on foot in Odyssey with a steep slope (and I'm not sure this is entirely intended functionality) is kind of "scramble" up a face that's too steep to climb by walking. Basically, jump and fire your jetpack and hold forward (the goal is to run into the slope before you run out of jetpac power), and then continue holding forward. You'll kind of "slide" up the steep slope until it shallows out enough to get a foot hold, and as far as I can tell, you can keep this "slide" up indefinitely. I've only tried this on relatively low G planets, but you can get all sorts of places on foot like this.

You see this in settlements too, if a wall only has the slightest of angles you can just skate on top of there by holding the appropriate directional button.

Me: I hate the blue circle! Get rid of it!
Also me: Aww that's neat, I get to live. More like this, please, Fdev!

Fascinating: it works in NMS too and I'm pretty sure it's the intended behaviour there.

Do you normally drive with no pips to shields. It's not like you need the guns for anything?
Shields don't offer any protection against SRV ground/rock collisions so to be honest I just put 4 pips to ENG and don't really worry about the other two unless I'm engaging in combat or other NPC interactions. I'd probably put PIPS into WEP earlier when mining rocks for mat's hence none in SYS when I put them back to ENG.
