Odyssey multi-crew experience

So me and my friend wanted to unlock engineers in Colonia...We got a mission for power restoration, I get a wing invite and he shares the mission with me. Then, embark in his ship and head to the planet. In there, we kill the scavangers (apart from one that was shooting us from inside a container) and when I try to cut the power plant door panel, my game freezes just as the panel touches the ground.
Restart the game, back into wing, we go back into supercruise (because relogging now clears the settlement although I just had a game crash), return to the settlement, repeat. Only to find out that if the Building atmosphere controls are activated by both of us, mission doesn't update, so the mission gets abandoned...Oh, and in the mean time, while we were in the building, my friends's ship gets destroyed by scavenger but he didn't receive ANY warnings the ship was under attack and we had to return to station in separate(!) Apex ships...
Next round, we both restart the game, I pick the mission, invite into wing, travel to planet in my ship in Pennsylvania system, land, we notice a DBX lands far away from settlement so we walk all the way there to kill them (objective said optional to kill 6), we kill them but one is shooting me from underground... however mission status was still saying 0/6...
Then, we go into buildings, this time I do all the fire control activation, leave the planet, mission complete. Here we discover we cannot share the next mission so we travel back to Colonia, except my friends still sees himself in my ship leaving the planet. At this stage, I decide to restart the game, invite in wing but can no longer share the completed missions and my friend although he helped me, doesn't have my shared mission that we just completed in his transactions panel...

I realise it's probably hard to follow the events that happened, to explain in a few sentences 3 hours of gameplay, so my suggestions would be:
  • Would be good to be able to share the next missions at any time, even after we complete them, without having to go back to the station to hand each one in.
  • Could we get NPCs to not spawn underground or inside unreachable areas?
  • Can we get back the warnings when ship is under attack while on foot? We tried shooting at my ship in wing and outside wing, left the scavengers to shoot at it, but there were no warnings.
  • It would be nice if we loot lockers, that everyone in the wing gets a copy of the rare items, otherwise it's a bit of "everyone for themselves" kind of thing instead of the more fun "hey, look what I found here"...

Thank you for reading this.

See bug report for this, would be great if you and your friends could contribute: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/44339

Also, in general, I would strongly recommend you and your friends consider port forwarding. If you haven’t yet port forwarding should help mitigate many multiplayer issues and improve your experience.

Perhaps FDev should use some of the money they harvested from EDO pre orders to implement dedicated servers instead of the cheapest option they could in p2p. The network layer of this game is like something out of the nineties, it's as multiplayer supportive as chess.

From my experience, although I know how to setup my own router, it's quite difficult to help the other players to setup port forwarding, they all have different interfaces, don't know the username and passwords, don't know the point of this exercise, time consuming, worry about security, etc. These issues should have been fixed long time ago though.

These issues are not exclusive to Elite. Plenty of games that use P2P connectivity suffer from the same issues Elite does to some extent. Some more than others depending on the bandwidth needs and type of gameplay (twitch vs turn based etc): ME Andromeda multiplayer, Dark Souls 3 pvp, Destiny 2, CoD MW, the original Blowdbowl and a large etc, with tons of other games experiencing similar issues.

P2P is just a design choice for game developers (it has its advantages and its disadvantages) that players need to be aware of if they want to play that game in multiplayer. The main mitigation for most of those games for eons has been port forwarding.

I nearly lost my Chieftain while busy dealing with all the personnel in a military outpost (military, I was there for just a bounty target). I had the wrong gear equipped (due to bug induced death by my own fleet carrier, mentioned in another post), so the fighting in the base was a lot more hectic than it should have been. After awhile, I started noticing a red flash on the border of my mini-radar frequently. I wondered if my ship was under attack, but dismissed that idea, because it never said "Your ship is under attack."

When I finally made it out to the Chieftain (very beefy), I noticed that the shields were down, it only had a sliver a health left, and was constantly being barraged by one guy with a missile launcher. I knew it would never survive me boarding/taking off, so I dismissed the ship and ran for it. Surprisingly, the ship did escape. I then called in an Apex shuttle... once I thought I was well clear of the settlement (whose defenses were both deactivated AND without a power core now), but then the shuttle came under fire by the patrol ships. We jumped out just as the shields were about to drop.

When I got to my destination AND my transferred Chieftain arrived there... it only had 2% hull.

So yeah, I feel your pain. The other bugs are annoying too.

I kept running into the issue of there not being enough scavs to kill in a settlement - first 10/16, then I supercruised out and came back, and was then about to kill 5/9. After that, I gave up and moved on to other missions.

One final bit: When did the whole "scavs are getting dropped off by 1-3 ships at your target JUST AS your landing" start? Talk about immersion breaking.
